    Second chance 70 Duster

Update, small but none the less it's an update. I finally got around to cleaning my instrument cluster and I also documented the rust and general body damage to this thing. I needed to document it so I couldn't ignore the fact that it is there. Finished product. Here's all the rust and...

    Second chance 70 Duster

Hey, so far the dash cap is great and it fit really well. I had to trim a bit of the old foam and vinyl to make it fit and had to clamp it in a couple places to get the rtv to stick to the pad and the cap but I would definitely buy another one for future builds.

    Second chance 70 Duster

Well I haven't had a ton of time to work on the Duster lately but I did get the steering column rebuilt and a new ignition switch installed on it. I also bought a dash cap and a carpet kit that I can install when I get the floor fixed. Parts!!! Column in fresh paint Before After...

    Second chance 70 Duster

Well I've managed to eliminate most of the funky smell from the car, I think most of the smell was in the seats. Now I'm turning my focus to the dash and steering column. Somehow I'm going to have to fix this hack job, it's going to put my welding skills to the test. I also got the dash pad off...

    Second chance 70 Duster

Well it is pretty solid I didn't put the pictures of the rusty quarters or lower fender rust. But over all she is solid as a rock. From what I gather it was in a barn for most of its life, not sure that's totally true or not but I'm inclined to believe it. The thing that amazes me about it is...

    Second chance 70 Duster

So some of you may know me from my 68 Valiant project that I posted here a while back. Well long story short is the Valiant went back to my dad and is staying in the family and I acquired a blank slate of a Duster. The reason I'm calling this my second chance is because my very first car was a...

Here's a couple pictures of my Valiant at the Mopar Nats in Woodburn this last weekend. Had a great time driving down and back getting the car on the road for the first time. And last my dads 440 dart in the staging lanes with a front engine rail behind him.

Got her out of the garage today. Had my two girls help me wash it, they had waited a long time to ride in the Valiant. After a couple laps through my neighborhood, small burnout included I picked up my wife from the house at which point the Valiant ran out of gas, go figure:)

Well..... I couldn't be patient and wait to start it up. Started and broke it in today on my lunch break. Everything went really well, three small leaks to track down but other than that it's alive. I'm super excited to have it running after so much frustration and work. Now I have to work the...

Well got the valiant to fire last Saturday, with all the time I've spent trying to figure why it wasn't starting it turns out my timing was 180 degrees off. Felt like a complete goober for letting something so trivial get the better of me. Carb started to leak at the transfer tube as soon as it...

Think the hood can be fixed? If it can be fixed I want to have a 6 pack or hemi scoop put on it, and maybe have if painted flat black. I'm not real sure what caused it either. Motor wasn't even trying fire, it was balls cold out and really humid as well. Thinking that maybe why it was being...

Not how I wanted it too go either. It looks like gas loaded up and it caught at just the right second and all the pressure caused the breather to blow off. Hagerty is coming out next week to look at it, got coverage for stuff like that, might as well use it. Anyway as soon as I get word from...

Sad, frustrated and want to cry right now. Tried starting the valiant today, and it did not go well. Somehow it caught fire and had to be put out with an extinguisher. While nothing looks that bad my hood took the brunt of the damage, looks as if the valve cover breather blew off and hit the...

Got a few more odds and ends wrapped up in the midst of the Christmas chaos. Got all the stuff to crimp the Pertronix wires I picked up, took an hour or so to cut and crimp them to length. They look like spaghetti now, I lost the pack of wire seperators I bought so there just loose and hanging...

Update time! Been gone for a while, job, family and some other stuff had my attention for a while. Been picking away at stuff on the Valiant here and there, when I get time. Finally got a chance to put the new intake manifold gaskets in and got the intake out pack on. Filled it with fluids and...

Thanks for the advice. Got my new/used coil last night from dad so I need to install that. Planning on also changing my valve cover gaskets cause one leaked a bit and I have fresh ones sitting. And I'm going to change one of my trans cooling lines cause one looks like crap and I have the time to...

Thanks, the same happens to me too. Had it pulled out a bit the other day so I could see it in the light. Can't wait to see your car painted, I'm sure your anxious too:) Hey! Not much is new right now. I had to order new intake manifold gaskets cause mine where the wrong thickness. So the...

Pretty rough day today. Planned on firing up the Valiant today for the first time. Spent almost all day tweeking all the loose ends and getting everything ready. Put break in oil in and realized that I hadn't put water in it yet. So we started filling the radiator up and water started to pour...

The motor is in. Got a bad line up issue with the motor mounts. Motor seems too be tilted trans down, can't get the cross member in. But none the less the motor and trans are home, and I'm feeling tired but accomplished.

Thanks! Im digging the sleeper look more and more. Some part of me wants it to be a big bad ride but some part of me loves that it looks like a grandma car, straight out of the past.

    1974 Duster Project

Looks like there is some work to be done. My first mopar was a 70 Duster so I'm kind partial to them, especially since your a young gun:) Keep at it, every hour you can get to wrench will help get it finished and on the road.

The 727 and the 318 are now one!!! Got em put together today and on the k member with some help from one of my girls. Now it's all sitting on a rolling pair of home made engine carts. Working pretty good too. Rolls really well. Just want to get the headers on and a few more odds and ends...

Tough choice:) I like the 69, since its a two door car it's got the cool factor going for it. Maybe you could use the 4 door as a nice little sleeper or cruiser. They both look really straight. Thanks for sharing, can't get enough of the Valiant body style myself.

Had my wife help me get the car flipped around today, first time the car has seen daylight in about a year. Looked nice in the sunlight. Finally got the k member out! Way easier then I though it would be. Now I just have to mate the trans to the motor and get it set into the k member! The end is...

Yeah I like the Stealth a lot. This intake was on the 360 that came out of this car. The guy that bought the motor from us insisted on using his Edlebrock Street Preformer intake. Needless to say he's looking to switch it out for a Stealth, the motor didn't like the Eddy intake at all:) I...

Thanks for the kind words. The intake is a Weiand Stealth, 8022 I believe. Really like this intake over the Edlebrock ones.
