    Rust dip success stories?

I agree, I did not say it did not work, it works great, but Evaporust will remove metal if it sits on it long enough. Imagine that any derust solution would. Have also used molasses to derust an oil pan. Took about a week but worked great. A gallon of molasses mixed with about 10 gallons of...

    Rust dip success stories?

I don’t know about that. I let a set of pushrods soak in Evapo-Rust, with about an inch of the pushrods protruding from the liquid and there was a definite mark at the liquid line where metal had gone away. They say probably 4 days or so.

1/2-20 Time-sert sleeve for oil pan drain ?

Why would the nut need to be welded to the back side. You can weld the nut to the outside if you get the perimeter of the nut welded/sealed. You could also tack a flat washer on the front of the nut if the gasket on the bolt needed a larger land. This would save dropping the oil pan.

Planning a shop build, any suggestions?

Put the air compressor in a separate enclosure. I did that on my garage addition and I like having that noisy beast outside of the main work area. I made the compressor enclosure big enough to also hold my blasting cabinet. I mounted the blast cabinet on wheels so I can roll it out of the enclosure.

    Shop layout recommendations?

I have had a compressor in an outdoor building for 10 years. No bad effects that I am aware of. In the summer the humidity in an out building will be the same as it is in the shop, unless the shop is air conditioned. In the winter, in extreme cold, zero and below one may need to pay attention to...

    Shop layout recommendations?

Another item that I am pleased with on my garage-shop build is I put a small concrete pad along the back side. I keep a couple of saw horses to use as a table base out there and if I am going to do a lot of metal cutting, grinding, working with smelly solvents,,, anything that will really make...

    Shop layout recommendations?

When I did the floor plan for my garage - shop I made a large 2D drawing similar to what you have. Then I made scale 2D paper cut outs of the work benches, floor shelves, vehicles and set them on the drawing. I made them loose so I could move them around to maximize work flow and space. With...

    Aluminum Brazing Questions

I am making some trim using the aluminum stock sourced from the hardware section at Lowes. I want to fix studs to the back side to mount it and am planning to use flat headed steel screws. These are small diameter screws that will hold only the trim in place, won’t need to hold much weight. I...

    ...About those "imaginary" compressor explosions....

Perhaps an ultrasound inspection, but then to have real meaning the equipment and operator would need to be certified for safety inspection. There is likely something similar for boiler inspections. Probably expensive. Perhaps the best advice was given in the video, drain the tank often and set...

    Stupid Tool Tricks

Shaping some aluminum sheet metal to finish a project. Times like this I wish that I had a small metal cutting scroll or a mini band saw. Then it hit me, clamp the jig saw in a vice, worked well. Was a lot easier having the cutting blade held and only having to move the material.

    Penetrant test

I have used Kroil, PB Blaster and regular WD-40 with really good results, however if I run into a bolt that is really stuck, I just plan to hit it with multiple applications of the penetrant usually over a day or so. I have found it to be the exception when a stuck nut - bolt is positioned so...

Picked up an Element Fire Extinguisher

I purchased two of the Element fire extinguishers. One to carry in the 83 D150 and one for the 68 Barracuda. They each come with one plastic mount, I purchased a second plastic mount for each, was like $2.00 and I will attach a pair of the plastic mounts to a strip of aluminum then mount the...

    Trailer security

I just sold my aluminum open car hauler. I had room to store it on my property. When not in use I had a lock that fit up into the ball hitch. Broadband in America from an insider.

we don't have cable here, shut it off years ago, so can't comment on that. Since the dawn of the internet age we consistently had the cheapest - slowest internet option that ATT offered, I believe it was DSL. Last year ATT made us an offer, a 50% reduction in the internet price for a year, after...

Not clear on how to adjust pot pressure blaster

It is taking a moment for the media to start dropping from the tank, and get through the media valve, give the tank a kick or a rock as you open the blasting valve. The media stacks up and locks together in the tank so it needs to break free before it can move. If you will be doing a lot of...

Not clear on how to adjust pot pressure blaster

The media valve controls the rate at which the blasting media is fed into the hose-nozzle. Too much media and it will not move through the hose to the nozzle. Too little and you are just blasting air. The choke valve balances air to and through the media with air directly to the nozzle. With my...

    plastic welder for gas tanks

I believe that I know what you are talking about. I have an 83 D150 and swapped that gas tank out for one from a 91 that had the in tank electric fuel pump. DIY Alignment Turn Plates

Maybe you'll come up with something.,,,yea, just roll the car back, jack it up, make an adjustment, let it down and roll it forward,, and as I had mentioned, each adjustor is already in the max position to give the most caster,,so I am not planning any moves on the cams, any adjustment would be...

    DIY EMT Solar pool heater

I would have a concern over the length added to the pump feed lines. The pump on my pool is high volume and low pressure. If the added lines are smaller that the existing lines and considering all of the 90 degree turns being added, you may reduce flow considerably. We use a solar blanket to...
