    which distributor?

I agree, something isn't right, not sure what though. My car runs so much better than it did with the MP unit.

    which distributor?

The part I like about MSD, is that you can change the advance stop bushing and advance rate(springs) from car to car. IMO, they are more tuneable than even the later MP distributors that ARE curveable. The downfall with a dist that has the slots welded up are its only good for THAT engine...

    Best spark plug for E85

Use a NGK equivalent plug, those champions are junk. Why would you need to index a plug? That's for racing.

What do you think of this plug?

I always like NGK or ND plugs. Your plug to me looks like it may be a bit rich on the jetting on the top end judging by the ring being black. I use NGK bkr5e-11 plugs. They work great for me. You may need the 6's though. If you use autolites, use the AR series. They will have 4 #'s after...

Holley Street Avenger 770 for 408?

I agree, that chart always seemed to undercarb what engine combo you are asking about. I have always used the formula of about 1.75-2 times the cubic inch, yet it all depends on cam, compression, stroke, heads, etc.

Holley Street Avenger 770 for 408?

The electric choke is attached to the side of the carb. First things first, drop that demon in the trash. Any carb you do get will have to be tuned to that engine. Try either the holley or an Eddy 750.

    Traction issues

S6 t bars will suck on the street. You need to decide how it is going to be driven as to what suspension setup you want. Caltracs and monoleafs with drag radials will be great on the track. Multi leafs are better for a street driven car.

    My ultimate small block build.

This is definitely an interesting topic. If they(440 source) would make small block stealth heads, that would be killer. I did a big block for a customer and painted all the aluminum parts(heads, intake, w/p housing) all factory turquoise with stock valve covers and it looks awesome...

Try bfg's...The radial T/A KDW series with the leaf pattern is a good street tire.

Hey Rumble, X heads were used pre 70. J heads were 70-up.

    Too much cam?

Start with the spring you have in there, then go 1 spring in either direction. What is the vacuum reading at idle in gear? That is most important.

    Too much cam?

Of what I remember, comp cams already have 4 degrees of advance ground in.

    Another 75hp please

Yeah. I also do agree about that cam. Great cam. My buddy runs it in his 68 formulas S 340/4spd, 3.23 gears and loves it. Keep the carb, jet it accordingly.

    Stupid Distributor Questions

Check your plugs for cracks in the ceramic. I have had cracked plugs act like this.

    Stupid Distributor Questions

I understand rotor to points/pickup phasing in that when the reluctor passes by the pickup, the rotor must be pointing at #1. But if the distributor is out of phase, it needs to be disassembled and reassembled correctly otherwise nothing will fix it.

    Stupid Distributor Questions

HUH??????? First off, I never implied you were an idiot. Secondly, you can just turn the distributor. to get the rotor to point at a certain electrode, since the base will turn and not the shaft where the points get opened and closed from. #1 can be wherever you choose it to be, but since the...

    Stupid Distributor Questions

Did you plug the vacuum port on the carb? What did you set the float drop to? Take a volt meter, put it on ohms and check each wire. The popping is from being lean. You need to back off the timing to eliminate the pinging. take it back to about 35-36* total. Which hole is the arm set...

    Stupid Distributor Questions

I agree....HUH?????? the reason its in the position that the FSM states is for the boneheads that were in the factory so there was one way to do it. technically speaking for any distributor run car, you can bring it up to #1tdc and drop the distributor anywhere you want. #1 does NOT have to...

    Stupid Distributor Questions

George, Float drop is done by bending the little tang at the back of the float. This little piece touches the needle/seat and how much you bend it decides on how much that flat will drop. If you want a pick, I can get one for you. Make sure these settings are correct BEFORE getting into...

    Stupid Distributor Questions

George, Float level and float drop are two entirely different settings. Float level is done with the airhorn upside down to see how close they are to the airhorn and gasket(usually a carter can be as close as 5/32 up to 7/16) and float drop is done with the airhorn in right side up position...

    Stupid Distributor Questions

George, Popping thru the carb sounds like the float drop is way too low. Can you take a pic of the carb to show us the vacuum port? How are the idle mixture screws set? In regards to an electronic unit, the plugs stay the same at .035, the curve I believe is about 27-30*(i.e. 8...

    the right intake

well with the eddy heads that equates to about 9.5 to 1. ditto on keeping the rpm. now if it was a 408 and more track time, victor definitely.

    What timing curve for 416?

if you start with the black(18*) bushing, start with 2 light silvers and then when you drive it and break it in, jump up to maybe 1 blue or lighter. its better to be safe and keep the timing curve a little stiff during break in.
