update. new flex plate and its better than ever. so if someone replaces one and cant find the miss check the flex plate.

drove it back to town to drop it off today. check engine light went off but still running like a turd. hope its easy fix.

lol idk if hes a chevy guy. its going back tommorow and well see what happen.

update. the flex plate was dented and they somehow poped the dent out. it was near the magnetic pick up. idles and runs now but check engine lite back on and intermediate miss with no power. guy is ordering a new plate and will replace at no cost to me. fingers crossed

mine did it all the time when i just had a paper gasket. would flood and not idle but run fine as long as you were gassing on it.

do you have a heat insulator under the carb or phenolic spacer? my edelbrock did the same thing and it was getting so hot it was boiling the gas out at idle. good luck. looks great.

i keep the idle around 650 rpms. never been lower. def makes no sense to me. thought id throw it out there and see if anyone else has seen this.

the trucks geared 3.23 with 3 speed manual. the guys gonna remove the j heads and keep them. havent seen any of it yet dont know about what stock heads he had on it. if i get it all whats a good set of 360 heads worth? doesnt sound like i want to use them.

sounds like my best bet is to just run the stock heads maybe get alittle work done on them before install.

ive been doing some reading and seems if i have the 360 heads shaved .040 off they should do ok with the 340 cam and i will add a performer intake and carb. im also ok getting the stock heads checked out and run them if the 360 heads will totally kill it.

i put dual exhaust, small cam and a cast iron 4bbl intake with a 600 eddy on my otherwise stock 318 and it woke it up alot. if i was rebuilding one and considering the 4bbl i would def put a little more cam since the engine will be apart anyway.

have seen folks turn the cover upside down and use the ball end of a ball peen hammer to put a little dent over the holes so the bolt will pull down tight when they were prone to leaking. i always use cork myself.

got 3.55 gears also 2.25 dual exhaust. 3 speed manual. have a 1406 eddy sitting in my building just need a good intake. so the xe262 with performer manifold and 600 eddy would do decent gas wise? not wanting to run header but if it will help enuff id consider it.

still looking for the right cam. im wanting to keep this engine 2bbl as gas prices are hurting. what is recommended for economy over a stock cam. thinking about the xe268h comp kit or the xe262h. says need adjustable valve train?

xe262h cam? looks like the right power range. anyone use this cam and hows the idle? it advertised fair idle. im wanting a fairly choppy idle.
