A-Body Hurst Comp Plus Reference Pics.

Is that the correct Hurst aftermarket A body non-console shift stick as well? It looks different to the shifters shown in the original post and also in Matthon's - ie. it hooks back more. Just wondering what is "correct", your's looks more suited to my needs but I guess they are probably no...

    Flywheel

Yeh I see that now, 410 buried right at the end. Just trying to help, mate, and I did proceed on the basis it was a smallblock. As most stroker assemblies are internal balance then I suppose that's the flywheel you're going to be looking for. Good luck.

A-Body Hurst Comp Plus Reference Pics.

Yes you did, sorry about that. I was just reading the post immediately above mine and providing the link to Brewers in case anyone wanted it. Was happy to find a new comp plus shifter for $200, Brewer's are good value.

    Flywheel

You didn't say what engine you want the flywheel for and you seem to have a number of different engines so it's hard to tell which. But if it's not a 360, which uses and external balance flywheel, but a 318/340 you wont have any trouble finding a flywheel. Just need 130 tooth flywheel for 10.5...

You're dead right, same as the new aftermarket shift mechanism I have just purchased from Brewers http://www.brewersperformance.com/products.asp?id=229

Is that handle still available? Anyone know the part number? May suite my current application.

    Another 833 to ID

Surely cant be mopar 833. Look at the irregular shaped front face (ie. where it mounts to the bellhousing).

    A745 3peed to a A833 swap

Speaking from my own experience in converting my 68 cuda from auto to manual A833, the hump is not difficult to line up over the tunnel. It basically only fits correctly one way. Trace around the outer edge of the hump when in place on the tunnel and cut inside that line about 1 inch to leave...

    68 A body Hurst non-console shifter

Thanks for thinking of me Antoon, but I've already got the console (base that is, not toplate) and a repro Hurst console shifter from Brewers. Going with non-console for the moment as it will cost me less to complete than buying the extra components needed to complete the console set-up...

    68 A body Hurst non-console shifter

I've decided to shelve plans for a console shifter for my 68 cuda the time being, now looking for non-console shifter. Can you buy these new anywhere?

chucks classic cars hyd clutch install

I installed a Chuck's kit in my 68 cuda. But the car is not running yet and it's also right hand drive, so the clutch pedal to master cylinder linkage is on the opposite side of the car to what your's would be! But for what it's worth I found it quite easy to connect the clutch pedal to the...

    Linkage trouble..

I had the same problem with my new linkages. The smaller hole you mention is for the reverse lever. When I looked into it, it seems that the arm for the reverse linkage is mounted the other way round - that is, the threaded swivel end is mounted to the reverse shift arm on the case itself, with...

    A833 lubrication

Thanks for the unput fellas, I cant seem to find Pennzoil Synchromesh over here so I might try the Valvoline 85W 150 gear oil and see how I go.

    A833 lubrication

Pardon the dumb question, but what's the best lubricant to use in an A833? I've done some reading on this but there is a lot of difference of opinion regarding use of ATF, synthetics, gear oil and the like. It's all very confusing. Frank Adkins in his Chrysler Performance book suggests motor...

    Trade 833(plus $200.) for a 833od?

Yes, I dont doubt that at all. In fact I've met a few in my travels across that beautiful land called Canada, (most notably it was in a town on Vancouver Island, from where the Inside Passage ferry departs for Alaska, eh, but I cant remember the name right now...Port something...) . (I also have...

    Trade 833(plus $200.) for a 833od?

Where is the guy with the overdrive from in Canada anyway? Newfoundland? I hear they get things back to front (or arse about face as we say here down under) sometimes.....

4 speed console verses non-console car

A 4 speed shifter for a console car is completely different to a non-console shifter. Reason being that the console shifter has to "snake" across to the right and slightly forward from its mounting point in the shifter box, up and through the console opening and then back towards the driver...

Will this work in an A body console

Yeh I got one of those 4speed console shifters from Brewers, they're nicely done. Better than paying upwards of $500 for an original shifter.

4 speed console shifter guys help

Thanks wildcat, yeh it probably is over to the left just a little too far, but an easy fix to move the shifter head over 2 inches or so. Good to know!

4 speed console shifter guys help

Problem is I dont have an original shifter to copy to make one up from scratch. But knowing what these shifters look like and how they sit in relation to the console I tend to think it would be less work to modify the repro one - if that proves necesssary. By my estimation I would have to cut...

4 speed console shifter guys help

My console is an A body console and the shifter is a repro of the hurst factory console shifter so I would have the same set-up as any 68-69 cuda with a manual console shifter. Im just wondering whether, sitting on the right side of the car (ie your passenger seat, my driver's seat) the...

4 speed console shifter guys help

I realise that the handle sits over to the driver's leg but sitting in the driver's seat on the right side of my car using an "imaginery" shifter it doesnt seem too far away ... hence my request for someone to try it using a real shifter. But why couldn't I modify the repro shifter to make a...

4 speed console shifter guys help

I've just ordered a repro Hurst style console shifter for my 68 from Brewers. My car is right hand drive, with a console (of course). I'm dying to know if I will be able to use the console shifter as is, or whether it will require modification to work comfortably for a driver sitting on the...

What you say here makes perfect sense, thanks! Looks like I'll just buy a new MP flywheel and be done with it.

    Flywheel officianados help please

I've got a brain teaser for all you flywheel experts, and hope you can help solve it for me. I picked up this flywheel which was used behind a 360 MARINE motor. It's a regular internal balance flywheel casting no. 2264598 which, as you can see, has had a large hole drilled right through it...

    Hydraulic clutch?

I used this one too, which even fitted well on the right hand side of the engine bay (my car is right hand drive) and is a much easier fit on left hand drive cars. It is well designed with the mount for the slave cylinder attaching to the transmission side plate and the mount has a swivel joint...

    automatic to 4-speed

Go 4 speed! Heck, if I can convert my auto 68 FB to 4 speed AND right hand drive, with no easy access to components (we didnt have A833 boxes in Australian A body mopars) I think you can handle it easily enough.
