I like this, Much cheaper than some of the other options ( yeah they are not a plug & play replacement , but Im ok with a little work ). this will come in handy for a 1954 Merc I am re wiring and converting to 12v. should allow me to retain the factory gauges.

I also like the oe parts, the 4 pin module is cheap and small enough to keep a spare around. was not a fan of the petronix i installed for dad, changed the timing a ton over the points. so keeping the points in the glove box for emergencies wasn't a quick swap.

with all the issues with those boxes, i ran a GM 4 pin HEI module on my slant. sprung for the Petronix version with the rev limiter

What's everyone using for running either an aftermarket wire harness or accessories through the firewall? thinking I'm going to mount my MS3 in the car to keep it away from the heat ect. just trying to get some ideas on the best way to run that bundle of wires through the firewall.

make sure its getting a good clean ground. bought a Volare back in the day on the cheap because it didn't run. cleaned up the ground for the ecu and drove it home.

I have the same set up on my Valiant. once its on the car its even harder to see it. do you have an adapter on the dist to run a newer style bolt on cap? looks pretty slick.

I think I checked that when I converted it back to mechanical advance. the previous owner had it locked out. it doesn't have a vacuum advance, I was thinking that would help my mileage & drivability since its a cruiser. figured I could save this stuff for a later build.

I would say if nothing has changed ( routing of wires ) I would check the connections, distributor cap & plugs first. but, it wouldn't be the first or last MSD box that died.

that is correct Rusty. it is not as easy on the small block in my valiant. the big block in my dart was much easier.

a little spray of wd40 from time to time or a wipe with a rag sprayed with it keeps it at bay.

Thanks Joe! you posted a link to that tool once before and this time I didn't mess around I just ordered it and the jaws for doing spark plug wires too! no more messing with the little tool they send with the MSD wires.

have several conversions in dads fords. just installed one in his T-bird and it was dead before I ever even got the car started. made a Huge difference in the Y block ford he had. car started and ran better than it had in a long time.
