    those lil tabs on the valve cover gasket get pulled into those Lil' slots cut in the valve cover, cleaning the valve cover and mating surface is a must..using a small bead of wheatherstrip adhesive to hold the gasket to the cover and a paper thin coat of silicone where it mates to the head works...

    pull all the spark plugs and squirt some automatic transmission fluid down each hole to help lube the cylinder walls, pop off the valve cover and tap the top of each valve to get them free'd up or you'll have a bunch of bent pushrods on your hands

    there is a little canister on the side of the carb called a choke pull off, it needs vacume to it or the choke will be stuck on ...........just sayin :)

    the tranny tunnel ones I run the scratch awl up from the bottom of the car to find them, the ones on the side I dont attach the sill plates or anything till they are in place by lifting the carpet and siting up the holes. redfish is on the money with be careful, measure plenty cut once...........

    lay the carpet set into the car, move it as far forward as you can on the front section tucking it under the dash insulation as you can, the rear section as far back as you can to make it fit into the floorboard pockets nicely, then have the trim panels and kickpanels in hand and see what needs...

    don't srap the car, post pics of it in the cars for sale or part it out,if you really need money part it out or hopefully find a member near you that wants it, the members here will give you more than scrap value and it will save the car or parts from the crusher

    Very good advice here from MeMike the straw will be the safest way so as to not damage the engine...teach a man the basics so he can troubleshoot rather than throwing money at the problem, I will agree that the pertronix system is a good way to go if he is running a points type distributor, but...

    easier to pull just the motor or motor and tranny as one?

    the slant is a bit longer than a v8 so with the trans connected you have to be real careful to not damage wiring,paint etc if the trans is still hooked to it, so i'd say much easier to seperate them and pull just the engine and go back for the trans if you really want it out...you'll see when...

    I've seen plenty of people put points in place of a lean burn for it's simplicity but they forgot the ballast resistor and fried points continuosly,hard starting when hot,crappy gas mileage just to name a few
