Three on the tree to auto

Good info to have guys, thanks. Looks like I'll be doing a little more research on what's needed to install a disc brake set up in front. Although I DO have the upper control arms, spindles, discs, calipers, etc from my Volare suspension.

Three on the tree to auto

I'll end up using an aftermarket floor shifter I suppose. I do have a later model a-body center console that I'd like to keep in the car, but if it hinders the shifter then it won't go in the car. Engine will be turbo'd, rear end will be upgraded to a Ford 8.8, front k member and suspension...

Three on the tree to auto

The Hurst shifter is the original Hurst AUTOMATIC shifter from a '65 'Cuda. I've gathered a hodgepodge of parts over the past year to do the swap. I do NOT have the flexplate though, I'm probably going to get an SFI approved one as this car is going to see some track time....If I can't use the...

So what was the final outcome of your swap Memike? I may just have to PM Slantsixdan and see if he can point me in the right direction....

Three on the tree to auto

memike, I'm not looking to swap converters. I've got the automatic trans and converter from a '66 'Cuda that I'm looking to install behind my '65 170 that currently has a manual three on the tree....

Three on the tree to auto

I've done several manual to auto swaps on other stuff, just never a slant. I know that you have to bolt up a flexplate where the flywheel was, but will the bolt patterns be the same? I dunno, that's why I'm here.....

Three on the tree to auto

Want to swap my three on the tree to an automatic. 1965 Valiant, 170 slant. I've been told that I'll have to swap the crankshaft as well because "you can't put an auto behind a slant that's had a manual behind it".... I really wanna call bullsh*t on that, but thought I'd ask the experts around...

    Manifold mystery

Not pulling any legs at all guys. The seller tells me that they are virgins, NEVER installed on a motor. I bought them, now just got to wait for them to arrive. And no, I won't be using them on my turbo build. Think I'll build another nasty little 170 to install them on. Pishta, I sent you...

    Manifold mystery

Anyone know anything about these supposedly factory manifolds? Seller thinks they have never been installed and are from 60-62 slants. I'm going to buy them, but just wondered if anyone recognized them. Just figured out that they are the Hyperpak intake and exhaust manifolds. And, just...

Little ol' 170, with a turbo?

Hey gang. Our plans to install a late model 5.9/56RH engine and trans have fallen thru. I've been thinking of turbocharging our little 170. I see tons of info on turbocharging the 225, but have yet to see anything on the 170. Any pro's, or con's, to using the 170 instead of a 225? Are the...

    170 pushrods

Howdy gang. I'm in need of a set of pushrods for a '64-'66 170 slanty. Anyone have a set they can spare, or can direct me where to buy them new? I'd love to get my little '65 Valiant back on the road as soon as I can, it's takin' up space that the crew cab needs to be sitting in! Wayno...

    slant 6 mods

The more and more, and more, I read threads about tubocharging slants, the more and more, and more still, I wanna do it. I've got a '65 Valiant 2 door with a recently rebuilt 225 in it and have been wanting to hot rod the motor to do some racing with. Hell, I've gone so far as to buy a '65...

    To Re-torque or not

OK, I know it ain't an A-Body, but it'll be TOWING and A-Body, and some folks have been askin' for a few pix of the beast...so here ya go. Wayno Austin, TX

    To Re-torque or not

Grimreaper, I think I'm OK with the bulbs I've got. Just wondering what would look better asthetically in the turn signals, amber or white. Wayno

    To Re-torque or not

Has new spark plug tubes. I think I've decided that I'm going to install a stock valve cover on it with a new gasket and see what happens. Since this engine isn't going to stay in the truck very long it really DOESN'T have to be all prettied up... Wayno Austin, TX

    To Re-torque or not

Considering that the valve cover is some aftermarket thin flimsy crappy one I'd say it COULD be coming from there. Has a new oil sending unit, which is located on the bottom of the motor, so I'll rule that out. I can see fresh traces of oil on the little bit of ledge that the top of the block...

    To Re-torque or not

I've seen "some" discussion over retorquing the head after the 1000 mile mark, but nothing definitive. Here's the basics of MY situation; 1980 stock block, 1967 .050 milled stock head. Has roughly 500 miles on it and I'm getting an oil leak from what looks like between the head and block...

    Smokey 225....

UPDATE! I didn't pull the plugs and shoot anything into the cylinders at all. I just finally RAN the frikkin' thing the way a motor is supposed to be run...on the road. Although I did add a can of Rislone to the crankcase, I can't give it any credit really. The smoking pretty much stopped...

    Smokey 225....

Yep, the Offy bolts up just like a stocker. As for the Marvel Mystery Oil, I'm a bit leary of it, but I figure what the hell, I ain't gonna hurt the damned thing any more than it may be hurt already.... Wayno Austin, TX

    Smokey 225....

I replaced the fuel pump, changed the oil and filter, and then ran the motor at idle for about a half hour or so....that's all the free time I had yesterday. The smoking seems to be getting better, seems to be. I'm thinking I should actually DRIVE the damned thing for a bit to know for sure...

    Post your best engine pictures!

Here's the slant in our '65 crew cab truck. The one that's currently in our'65 Valiant is bone stock and not much to look at....yet.

    Smokey 225....

Patience has never been my strong suit, but I'm going to give the tablespoon of Rislone/ATF a shot. AFTER I change the oil and fuel filter that is! I also agree that it's quite possible that I got stiffed when buying the motor. Hell, I thought EVERYONE that sells stuff on Craigslist was...

    Smokey 225....

I've been sorta kinda thinkin' that myself. Stuck rings was definately in the forefront of my mind, at least until I checked the oil and found that thin black crap that was in the crankcase...I'll give that a shot tomorrow. Don't know if I can WAIT a couple days to find out though!!!! I'm...

    Smokey 225....

I've got a slanty in my 1965 crew cab truck that smokes. Yeah I know, it's not an A-body, but my '65 Valiant slanty is doing just fine. Here's the basics; 1980 engine, supposed ran good when pulled from previous vehicle. Installed in the crew cab, pissed water out of #1 exhaust port when I...

Is it OK to take .050 off the cylinder head?

I'm probably asking a dumb question cuz I'm sure it's been discussed to death, but is .050 too much from the head? I've got a blown head gasket on my 1965 Crew Cab Dodge truck with a 225 in it and I'd like to get a little more compression out of the thing. Don't really feel like pulling the...

Not an A-Body, but has a slant 6

Hey y'all, sorry for posting this HERE at FABO, but since I'm a member and we're gonna use this to tow the Valiant to the race track I figured it would be acceptable.... We just bought a 1965 Dodge D200 Crew Cab Utiline truck with a 225 slant and 4 speed....can't wait to see the 1965 Valiant...

    Shaved head, big valves

About to purchase a fresh cylinder head, shaved .100 that has big valves installed. The question is if I have to have the pistons cut? Cam will be .460 lift, 268 duration.... I'm sure someone has run into this already, I'd appreciate some input. Wayne Austin, TX

    Slant 6 Value?

Not that I'm adding anything useful to the conversation, but I recently picked up a 40,000 mile 225 and 904 from a '65 Cuda for $75, with the alternator, power steering pump and gear, and AC compressor.
