About to purchase a fresh cylinder head, shaved .100 that has big valves installed. The question is if I have to have the pistons cut? Cam will be .460 lift, 268 duration....

I'm sure someone has run into this already, I'd appreciate some input.

I would still measure piston to valve clearance,so you know how much is there for the future cam change:toothy5:

above statment is very true... i have .112 off my head, .025 off the block which brought me to .150 in the hole on the piston...

still have lots of room on a .510/[email protected] cam...

and are you making a very hot street or race motor? 248 is alot... better have 10:1 minimum...

Can't speak for the .100 shave, but I shaved .090 off with 1.70/1.44 valves and the same cam #s with out any relief cuts !!:supz::supz:

You will have no problem on a 225 engine. With a 170 engine there is a good chance the valves will hit the pistons, with that cam.
