    360 vs 383

With the light weight of a big block with aluminum parts equaling the weight of a stock small block, the same light weight aluminum parts on a small block will weigh in/6 territory. So that argument is a non starter with me. It’s about hp per lbs of engine weight with running gear.

    Solicitor repellant

I keep a stack of Jehovah's Witness Watchtower magazines right beside my front door. If a solicitor gets past my 2 gates, 2 signs, and the 40ft staircase - I will hand them a Watchtower and tell them about salvation during the end of times. They never come back. Ever. Modern problems require...

    Solicitor repellant

Long time ago I was working nights and of course I had to sleep in the daytime. Of course the phone would ring or someone would be at the damned door almost every day. I was in the habit of sleeping naked, and one day I was awakened by a persistent knocking on the door. I grudgingly got up...

Someone needs to start re-casting 340 blocks

I have a few R3s stashed away, otherwise I would defiantly be using the Ritter block for my w8/w9 stuff.

EFI considerations for a 1970 383 with very mid cam

Hello all, I am switching from an Edelbrock 650 to an efi. Looking for some key considerations I need to be aware of when picking the efi system. This is my first swap so any knowledge is better than whee I am now. I have a new tank, inside tank fuel pump and feed / return lines - just need...

    Penn Grade (Brad Penn) oil

I use the Lucas 10w-30 in the race cars. If you believe that Zinc is good for a race engine. Lucas racing oil has the highest concentration that you can buy. It's over 3000 ppm. I use 5w-40 Rotella full syn in my Ram diesel.

Picture of Class finals from Vegas Race

I am having way more fun than a 76 year old Guy usually does! For years I raced out of Bob Mazzolini's Shop and he gave me a shirt that said "How much Horsepower can I have and still go to Heaven?".

    Rear end

Why do you want to upgrade the rear? Different gears, current rear worn out? If your current rear is in good shape you might want to upgrade your torque converter instead.

EPA,SMOG,GOVERNMENT MANDATES. Had to go with lower compression, unleaded gas etc. And yes a stock 78 400 was a pig and sucked gas. Best of 8 mpg.I had one in 1978. What a turd..

Someone needs to start re-casting 340 blocks

The volume would be the problem. I was at Ritter's place 3 or 4 years ago, at that time he told me was into his block program for $250k and I know they went through a 3rd revision after that. So he has easily sunk $300k in the project. The problems are largely resolved now.

Someone needs to start re-casting 340 blocks

The guy replied below it (i looked after posting here of course) said it removed over an ounce from the gear and also let more oil into the bushing area and he wasn't driving the oil pump so no real pressure on the gear.

    360 vs 383

I put a 440 into a '68 Valiant once way before swap parts were readily available as they are today. I love the ease of working on big blocks, but in an A body it takes up every bit of space. Changing plugs is easier if you can cut a hole in the inner fender near some plugs. That little engine...
