What is this on the end of the extension housing? Some type of shield or something? Is it removable? I've never seen one of these before.

I'm in the middle of a high performance 727 build. While reassembling the pump, I noticed a small chip on one of the teeth. Is something this small worth replacing the gears over, or am I worrying over nothing? Other than the chip, clearances were spot on. Thanks guys!

Is this surface on the pump stator a bearing surface in the converter? The reason I ask is the pump stator on the 727 I'm building has some rust on that surface and I'm wondering if it'll cause any issues.
