    MSD distributor tuning

God morning all! My 87 Ramcharger has a MSD ready to run distributor in it. It's a stock 318 other than dual exhaust and 4bbl. I just cant get more than 30* Mechanical advance out of it. Initial is at 15* and with vacuum it go to 50*. I changed the stop bushing from 21 to 25*. The springs I...

    Ramcharger electrical troubles

Good evening folks! I need your brains again. My 87 ramcharger is mad at me for being parked outside while the Duster is taking its garage space... I have a strange electrical gremlin . Yesterday morning on my way to work, my turn signals weren't working. The dash light would light, but not...

    E3 spark plug inconsistency

Just to kill a few minutes, I pulled the plugs on my ramcharger. These have less than 600 miles on them. Every plug had a different wear pattern on them. This is an example of #6 & #8 cylinders.

Duster won't fire in cranking position.

Finally got to the point of starting my 73 Duster. 318, with factory ignition and ECU. I have a 4 pin ballast and also a 4 pin ECU. It only gets spark in the RUN position. Nothing in the START position. Am I missing something? I thought that a 4 pin ecu needed a 2 pin ballast, and a 4 pin...

    ECU/ballast wiring questions

73 Duster with a slant harness, but has a smallblock in it now. I have a 4 pin ECU, but the harness is for a 4 pin ballast. Don't I have to install a 2 pin ballast since I'm running a 4 pin ECU? If so, do I need to either jump one set of the resistor terminals, or tie them all together at the...

    Msd vs. HEI distributors

Would an MAD 8388 ready to run distributor be any advantage over an HEI converted factory electronic distributor? This will be for my bone stock 87 ramcharger. I have a brand new mad sitting there for another motor. I've been running the HEI now for 4 years with no problems. Curious if it...

    Ramcharger fusable link question

So , my 87 Ramcharger burnt up a disable link this morning on my way to work. I hit a hard bump in the road and my lights went out a few seconds and came back on. I smelled wires burning but quickly went away. I now have no heater blower and power windows. Everything else works. I traced back to...

    Ignition timing chart

Somewhere, there is a 4 page article on mopar ignitions and it has the breakdown of the ignition curves and the degrees of advance of the slots at different measurements. It also talked about the crank degrees of initial, vacuum and total timing. I've tried searching for it, but cant find it...

    87 Ramcharger B/U light question

Sorry, Not A-body related but... My B/U lights don't work on my Ramcharger. The only thing that doesn't work on the beast. Are the lights routed through the neutral safety switch or is there a seperate light switch located elsewhere? I am not getting any power to them and would love for them to...

Hi all! On my stock 87, 318 Ramcharger I converted it from lean burn distributor to an HEI modified stock electronic distributor using the mounting plate. I welded the slots and I have pinging athigher rpms. Initial is 15*, mechanical is 36*, ang total timing goes over 60* which is where my...

    Leanburn to HEI conversion question

I did the HEI conversion on my 318, 87 Ramcharger today. I used an electronic distributor, A design2drive.com adaptor plate, Pertronix flamethrower coil that was listed to use, and a Standard Ignition Products HEI module. I recurved the dist to one of the MP light springs, and a light blue...

    87 Ramcharger ignition questions

Ok, so I bought a Ramcharger a few months go and I was thinking of upgrading/updating the ignition on it. I believe it has some sort of lean burn system behind the battery, in the fender. I was thinking of converting it to a HEI system with a new E-coil, a design2drive conversion plate and HEI...

    What coil are you running?

Just wanted to know what everyone is running for a coil. I was going to do an experiment and convert to electronic ign w/ chrome box, from my HEI setup. I know most will ask why, and the reason is simple. I do not think the HEI is allowing me to rev past 5800rpm. I have tried different fuel...

Difference between chrome and orange box?

What is the advantages of running a chrome box over the orange box? I was always told that an orange box for the street and chrome for racing only. I read here that people out the chrome box on in place of the orange for street applications. Will there be an improvement if I did so?

    Coil and ballast resistor

What coil and ballast resistor should I run with electronic ign orange box. I have .5 and 1.2 ohm ballast resistors and uncertain whic one is the one to use. I have a Standard ignition coil, and an Accel Super Stock coil, but I was thinking about buying a MSD blaster 2 coil. I think it makes a...
