    Fuzzy Math

I know I'm opening a can of worms here. But I brought popcorn, so it's all good. Regarding carb size on a 340 build...going by the CFM formula in the old Holley Carbs by Mike Urich and Bill Fisher, my calculation come up with a CFM requirement of somewhere in the 600 cfm rating for a...

    A question about Holleys

I see Summit is now offering Holley carbs in the standard zinc dichromate finish, and also now in polished aluminum, which appears to be cheaper. Any reason why the aluminum should be avoided or discouraged over the standard Holley carbs?

    Aftermarket Six Pack Questions?

I know this topic has been beat to death here. But let's kick the corpse down the road a little more. I keep having this recurring dream (nightmare?) of seeing my finished (340) engine topped with a six pack induction setup. Stupidly expensive costs aside, it seems every time I begin fantasizing...

    Carb conundrum

OK, see...I had it all figured out. I bought a nice used AirGap RPM last year for my 340 and had decided to use the original TQ by way of a spread bore adapter. Sure; it might take a little blending, no problem. And the choke linkage; well...a little constructive designing perhaps to change it...

    Best TQ rebuild kit?

Hey all...in the process of rebuilding my 1972 ThermoQuad, 6138S (340, MT) and wondering which was the best quality (and most complete) TQ rebuild kit out there? According to Vaanth's TQ guide, this takes kit No. 1. Are the NAPA kits decent or should I look for a different maker in your...

Is this gonna be a problem?

I'm fairly satisfied I can make a smooth transition from TQ to AirGap RPM using my adapter plate, but just noticed a huge gap between manifold planes when it's in place. Will this upset the air/fuel flow through both sides? I know there are plenty of single plane designs that use an open plenum...

    Action+Plus vs Stealth

Looks like the A+P is set up for a spread bore (TQ) but has the smaller ports for a 273/318, while the Stealth is set up for a square bore with ports for 340/360. Which is the better 340 manifold? Port the A+P or use an adapter on the Stealth?

    TQ home-brewed choke setups

Was looking at my TQ today and trying to figure a way to work up a manual pull-choke setup in case I decide to use a non-EGR manifold like an Air Gap. If you have a successful version of this, how about posting some photos of what you did and how it works for you.

    Air Gap RPM with TQ?

Has anyone tried running a TQ on an Air Gap RPM using an adapter and manual choke, and more important; does it work? I realize there are things that can be done, but should not be.

Do dual quads on a small block really suck?

Do dual quads on a small block really suck? (No pun intended). Dual Quad manifolds are few and far between for the Mopar smallblock....yet they are readily available for 289 Ford and 283 Chev....and most reports I've read state a good single quad or six pak will outperform a 2X4 setup. With...

340 Six Pak; A/T vs M/T...what's the difference?

I notice in the catalogs like Summit, Jegs and Classic Industries that the repro Six Pak center carbs are listed as M/T (manual trans) or A/T (auto trans)...and they are always out of stock on the MT versions...if they list them at all. Anyone know what the difference is in the MT carb vs AT...

    Plating question

Regarding plating that is worn or rusted off linkages and rods on carburetors: is there a simple process to re-plate with a corrosion-resistant coating (other than paint) once the links, etc have been cleaned and polished? I took the badly corroded and rusty link rods from my TQ and...

Factory manifolds.....just how good were they?

I have two factory cast-iron 340 manifolds...one off a '69 340 with a very slight spreadbore to fit the stock Carter AVS, and the other off a '72 340 made to fit the factory Carter ThermoQuad. A little research tells me 'back in the day' these were considered very, very good manifolds. Other...

    ThermoQuad videos

Here is a series of videos from YouTube by a guy who's obviously been around the block a time or two with the TQ. Very mellow and soft-spoken but he explains the theory of how it works and how to tune it in a way that makes you go "Duh!" I watched the You Tube "Official" 1972 Chrysler training...

    Best manifold for ThermoQuad-equipped 340

All hype aside...which is the best street/strip manifold to use on a TQ equipped 340 for best numbers? I know the Air Gap has been getting rave reviews, among others but also heard good things about the Weiand Stealth. I could use an adapter but prefer a spread-bore manifold. I do have the...

    Carter AVS?

Talk to me about the Carter AVS... I have mine off the '69 340 4-speed motor along with the factory cast-iron dual plane manifold. Was this combo any good? How does it stack up to the ThermoQuad or a present day Eddy performer? What CFM options were available? It's a interesting setup.

340 Six Pak...smokin', or blowin' smoke?

Which one....? From what I've read, a good 4-barrel double-pumper will out-perform the 340 Six Pak setup on the dyno. You have to admit, though...there are few setups as visually exciting as 3 Holleys spooning on top of an aluminum manifold. Moreso, I believe, than a nice dual quad setup. But...

    Holley re-plating?

Does any member here have a good contact source for re-plating a Holley DP with the correct finish? My 650 DP has seen better days, and while un-run since rebuilt, looks kinda crappy. I could just buy a new one (or run it as-is) but if the cost is reasonable, I would consider it.

    ThermoQuad choke issues?

Does anyone have an automatic choke conversion to manual for the standard issue ThermoQuad? This seems like a great carb if you can get past that hurdle. Was a conversion kit produced, or do most of you just 'wing it' and rig up something that works? If so, pictures would be great!

    Fuel transmitter (sender) removal?

OK, stupid question, but..... How do you get the fuel sender out of a 16 gallon 1972 Duster gas tank? It looks like it *might* twist out, but I don't wanna butch it up. Tank needs to be acid etched and flushed.

    TQ question

    4 bbl manifold shootout?

Has anyone done a manifold "shootout" on single 4 bbl manifolds for A motors? Maybe somebody could post a link to a thread or site for me. I'm investigating all the options at this point for the best numbers for a 4 speed car between 1500 and 6500 RPM; street/strip motor, that will spend most of...

    Holley plating

Does anyone have any information regarding the plating Holley uses from the factory? It appears to be cadmium or something similar. I'd like to replate my Holley (or have it replated) and was wondering if anyone has had any success with this. I have an older Year One catalog which lists Holley...

Carb(s) and manifold question- OPINIONS WANTED!

OK, here we go. First off, I've always been a Holley guy. My last current setup on my Duster was a Holley 650 douple-pumper perched on top of a Edelbrock Torker 340 (X-type) manifold. I was really surprised to hear so many here reflect negatively on the Torker, and there seems to be a large...

    Smallblock 2x4 setups

I'm interested to know if anyone out there is running a smallblock street/strip dual quad setup, what equipment they're using, how they like it and how it performs (ET's, tuning, etc) as well as cost info. Any comments would be welcome.

    Six Pack setup?

I see in Mopar Muscle where WestOaks is offering a complete smallblock package for $1849.00. Considering the cost of the individual components, this seems fairly reasonable. Anyone bought this, if so, how "complete" is complete, was it bolt-on, and did it work well out of the box? Thanks.

    2X4 LP manifold

Maybe someone out there knows the answer to this....while window shopping for carb/manifold combos, I noticed a curious thing.....nobody makes a low-profile dual quad manifold for the 340 (like the factory hemi 2X4), with the exception of Offenhauser's very old classic 2X4 design (which will...

    dual quad low profile?

I've been window shopping for a better induction setup than the 650 Holley double-pumper on a Torker 340 I've been using, and noticed something unusual; NOBODY makes a (hemi-style) low profile dual-quad setup for the SB Mopar! Weiand makes a tunnel-ram setup, and of course, you have the...
