1 Problem with my 69 cuda.

I am a mopar newbie. I just got this 1969 Barracuda Convertible, LOVE IT! The engine and transmission have been rebuilt prior to my owning the car. The car had set for some time before I got it. My problem is that it leaks transmission fluid. I thought the transmission pan gasket was old and leaking so I changed it. The car still leaks. It will leak just sitting in the garage overnight. What else would cause this. Thanks.
 
Main shaft seal in the front? Yoke seal? Climb under there and survey things, see if you can`t get a general area to start with and then maybe we can narrow it down.
 
I am off tomorrow I will try to look closer at it then. I have not worked on cars much but I want to do anything I do myself on this one. What and where exactly should I be looking for? Just the origin of the leak??

As far as I can remember the last time I looked it looked like it was coming from the trans. pan.
 
Look real close at the kick dawn and shifting arm that is on the drivers side if the trans.. if it is leaking it will run down to the pan and make it look like it is leaking there.
 
Also, the upper shifter/kickdown seals tend to leak. As stated by Longgone, wipe the pan area "and" on the shifter lip area. Feel around the next morning to see what area the leak is from. 904/727 can leak around the same areas, however if you have a 727 there's a hole and shaft seal dead center between the pan lip and tail section that often leaks.

Thanks guys. I guess great minds must think alike. I will keep you posted on the results. I don"t think I will have to wait too long to see a leak it seems to leave a pretty good sized puddle overnight.
 
dont forget to check around the dipstick, i had the same problem , did the pan gasket, leaked 3 days later, it was the dipstick, well i replaced the o ring and it was good as new(8months ago) now its leaking fromt he spot welds around the bottom where it bolts to the trans :angry4:
 
Heres another thing. When cars set for a good while seals tend to harden up some. Sometimes you can drive the car for a few trips where trans gets up to temp and seals soften up a bit and leaking will end. Not sure if this is the case here, but if it has been setting for a while, I'd check the fluid making sure its full, and take it out for a drive for an hour or so. JMO, Mike

Get couple of cans of brake clean on the suspected area and a pan to catch the crap in... Clean it ...Wait a day ... You'll see the leak... Luckily ya know a few new guys who like mopars and are local :)
