13 digit VIN search ?

Hey guys anyone know if there is a service where I can enter a VIN to see if a vehicle still exists and maybe who owns it ?
Decades ago I salvaged some documents from a dealership I worked at and I'd like to finally try to do something with them. Basically "the books" of new and used car sales back in the day. I know there are 440 cars and at least 1 hemi in these books. Original buyers info, price paid, options, what was traded in, etc. VERY cool stuff.
I know the cars are likely long gone but you never know. This is priceless documentation for those that do still exist. Thanks.

My guess is you would have to know someone at DMV or the police. Otherwise trying to get someone to do that for you is next to nil. I am not even sure of the legal implication of doing that.

Some states have online VIN check pages.

Most comprehensive, muli-state VIN check services only deal with post 1981 VINs.

as far as I know you could be in position of confidential vehicle sales documents and could land you in a heap if you go to police

Barry I will mail you some ASAP to give you an idea of what I have. I'm all jammed up now chasing down an initial batch of parts for my car that just got back from paint, and doing "springtime around the house stuff".
There's hundreds of cars in the books, new and used so not all of them are Chryslers. For now I'll just grab some random ones.
I'd always hoped this could be a cash cow for me but I'll never be able to find the owners myself and I'd be happy to help.

Sounds great Mitch! I get the occasional monetary donation, but some folks never even bother to say 'thank you' when their paperwork arrives. It is not a way to make money, but I do it because it needs to be done.

I also let any person that donates original items know when any of the items they send in are claimed.
