18 or 23 spline

Hey guys im looking to buy a 4 speed for my 70' dart with a 440 motor in it. I recently had discussions on whether i need to buy an 18 or 23 spline A Body 4 speed?? I was under the impression that i needed the 23 spline but now im second guessing myself. If ya know let me know??????? Thanks Dave

Do you have as much power as a 440/6 or a Hemi?, what are going to do with it?

Mopar put an 18 spline trans behind 440's and 426 HEMI's. They thought there was a reason. It's not just splines, bearing sizes, internal bushings, ratio's, etc.
