I'm on the fence on pulling the trigger on this. Obviously been repainted, but interior looks original, no cracks in steering wheel, floors have some rust but nothing horrible, trunk floor solid, nice sbp wheels.
I read the 62 is a good year because the suspension is closer to later a-bodies, or something like that.
Hardtop too, and I have a blue armrest for it!

That's a super nice project.
 
Yes 62 is closer to the common A Body suspension and steering.
Engine compartment is smallest of all, gas tank has to be a 63-64 dart style with some mods.
Heater box and wiring is different.
 
That looks like a way above average example. Those cars as you probably know are darn hard to find..period!
I love their style and if you do too, I say go for it if priced reasonable (which is hard to determine as so few exist and are sold).
 
Wow that doesn't sound to bad at all, especially in that kind of shape.
They go down a bit as those cars are the best sellers, it takes a real Mopar guy to like those.

At first I didn't like the wheels on it, now I think they're perfect for it.

I can't believe the shape the interior is in, especially the steering wheel, but looking closer at the pics it looks like there should be at least a partial horn ring, broken off maybe.

Armrest I have is in great shape, but has a stain on it.

At first, I was going to buy this: WIW 62 Lancer
Discovered it did not have a vin plate.

Fast forward to last Friday, the plan was to go buy the Valiant, and offer to buy the Lancer as well, pick up both same day.

Then on Monday pull the 58 Dodge out and if the frame was good, as it had sunk into the ground in the barn, load that up and take it home.

Well, Friday didn't happen, unrelated reasons, and I couldn't get the 58 out of my head for the last 2 years, so we stuck with Monday's plan.
Frame is fine.

Valiant can be seen in background.
As of now, with the 58 home, odds are we won't go back for it. But stuff happens.

I have zero experience with the early a-bodies, had a feeling it was a good one, so thank you fabo for the info.

I did the body/paint on our 62 Lancer about 6-7 years ago and couple months back, I repainted it B3 Blue to suit the wife as she claims it. Still have to get a good running slant or address the rebuild issues of one I have here.
I woke up other day and realized I am OLD and TIRED!!
 
No, not the inner fenders or hood line.
It's just a 60 or 61 has a different K frame and steering box.
Lower control arms and steering linkage is different.
I meant the whole 60-62 A Body is the smallest engine compartment.
You can bolt a 62 k frame into a 60-61.
Column is different. Not sure about the firewall around the column.
60-61 don't have the common firewall wire disconnect.

Must be adequate they stuffed a 413 in this one and used oem Mopar parts !!

Indeed, it is not a trivial task to stuff a small block V8 into a Toad.

Back in ‘66 I had a ‘57 Caddy convertible with 365 cu. in. V8 with 4 speed Hydramatic , I beat ‘57 T Birds no problem . A friend had a ‘62 Lancer with 170 cu. in. And 3 on the floor manual.

Well on day after school we lined up and dropped the hammer , dang little /6 beat the Caddy repeatedly until the trans in the Caddy made a god awful screech .
When I got home I told my Dad the Caddy made a weird noise just driving down the road, all innocent like . He took to repair shop and low and behold it needed a trans overhaul .
Dang Lancer !
I’ve wanted one ever since . But a ‘63 270 more door Dart , a ‘64 270 wagon a ‘64 GT and now the ‘66 GT my dad bought new and I’m kind of over it .

Love this body style. Wish I could find a complete one and just make it daily driver.
 
My understanding is gauge faces are aluminum, is this true?

Are the white knobs just plastic?

Buildsheet found and 1 Signet 200 emblem in glovebox.

Horn ring appears to be broken.

My guess is the remote speaker control under the dash is aftermarket.

Trunk has sill plates, original jack, and trunk mat.

Not sure if seat belts are original, has seat belt eyelets in floor.

Original hubcaps, I think.

Original air cleaner, I think, behind seat, 225 on it.

Call me crazy, but the reverse lights and housings look identical to the 67 Barracuda.
