After many years, we've finally pulled the trigger on getting her restored. She's already been in the shop for a few months, but I thought I'd post here since I was looking around the forums for a few things.

Awesome, welcome to FABO! Looking forward to seeing Your progress. Mine's a 3-on-the-tree. I'm just a bit jealous, lol!

This is really my wife’s car. She’s owned it since 1988. It was a daily driver for her and by default, was the ride for our first date. Kids and life left it a bit under cared for, but we could never convince ourselves to sell it. We’re so happy that we didn’t!
I can do minor work on it, but we’re having a friend contract the work on it. He’s doing it for an unbelievably low cost/friend deal, which is the only way it’s going to get done. My wife wants it to stay as true to original as possible, but we have to make concessions. The slant six stays. 13” wheels stay.
If we only had a nickel for every time someone said “too bad it’s not a mustang”. No way! We love the uniqueness and the lines of our 64 and we’re going to enjoy joy rides with her for as long as we can :)

Very cool car! I'm sure you are glad you hung onto it. Looking forward to seeing pictures of the restoration progress.

Progress. Tons of mechanical work happening right now. Brakes, shocks, front end, steering. Planed the manifold. Electronic ignition. Convertible top frame needed some welding. All the chrome has been redone and is sitting in a box in my garage as we get through this phase. Should be going to paint soon though.

Also, our friend gave us this original 1964 brochure.

Wow, what a cool car. If it was a Mustang, you'd have to rebuild the trans every year, it would not handle as well, not have as much power, or be as trouble free. My best friend in High School had a Mustang, manual trans and 6 cylinder engine. Those were his experiences with his mid sixties Mustang.

After a year and a half, this is where we still are. Finally, we have started to put her back together. Seats and door panels have been reupholstered. Carpet, trim and the top are next.

Cool, thanks for sharing.
I dont think I have seen a '64 convertible 4 speed before.

My dad has an original '64 4 speed dart gt and also a '64 convertible with a 273 pushbutton.

The 4 speed 170 trim and convertible must have been a fairly odd combination.

Good luck with it!

Although I think it was a three speed until 65.
