I always wondered if anyone had it chrome plated- I thought it would look great
Anyone have a pict of such a critter?

The majority were body color. Back in September of 1964 my and and I went to see the new Plymouths unveiled and the dealer had a turrquois Formula S car with a white stripe and I distinctly remember the grill being matte black. I also remember comparing that black grille to a couple of 64 Barracudas they had on the lot that could be seen through the window which had grill centers that matched the body color and the fact that I preferred the black center section.

thank's for the input. I traded for this cuda from a "parts hound" type buddy. it was ALL apart from the P O. the grill that came with it ( original???) was some shade of black and I would guess original paint on it. I can't see it as white on that white car. thanks again. I looked up tons of pics on this pueter. most were body color but some black too.

My White 65 came with the white center grill... It did not take me long to paint it BLACK...
Because I "Like" it that way... Else it would Just be TOO much "White" for my tastes!!!

Whatever color it's painted, I would suggest that the hood latch components be either painted black or body color to blend in! The pic of the red car in the link with the blacked out grille looks awesome, save for the hood latch and bracing sticking out like a sore thumb from behind the grille!

Umm hmm!! I went through all of the same things with my 66, which has a painted center! Painted, yes, but what color??? I painted one body color, one body color with the matching stripe, one silver and one 20% flatted black, and installed every one and did the old school mock up, you know, sitting back with a cold one and staring at them!!! In the end, the flatted black won the day and I painted the brace behind the grille flat as well!!

I agree, sitting back with a cold one is the best way to do this...

I do have a painted "White" Center grill as well and have installed it when I use to do "Shows"... Now days, I just run with the "Black"... Gives me more time to enjoy a Cold One that way!!!

On mine it was black. I promptly painted it silver as the car was....copper. still cant figure out the paint code NN4BB, silver and black interior? Nothing copper in the paint code.

My 65 Formula S is original Blue and the grill is black. I have not painted it yet and for my best knowledge it was never painted. I hope this helps as when I paint the car eventually it will remain this way for sure!

-- Here's mine on a 65 Valiant. -- Not sure about the center. I bought it that way, in Florida, a few years ago.
