1965 Barracuda- Restomod

-
Still working on it slowly but surely.

Right now I'm not worried with the t5, they are generally frowned upon but from the reading I have done I think they are underrated. I'm not going to be dogging the car every minute I'm in the car, yet I'm not going to be grandma going to church either. I am going to just build a fun car. Once I'm ready to really dog it I'll line up a t56 from a Gto.

Right now I'm collecting a lot of pictures and ideas I have seen floating around online with other 64/65 barracudas. I'm purchasing gauges and such and getting a front suspension system lined up.

I just converted my truck over to an alternator because I was sick and tired of my generators failing me every 6 months!

So I'm just slowly collecting what I need to get everything going. I got a few big ticket items left to get, but I'm hoping for July. Really hoping.

Plus if the tranny does fail me I have my 833 which will bolt up no sweat.

Sold my whole OD set up. Decided to keep the auto and use the t5 for my truck.

Working on pulling a free jag IRS set up. That way I can lose the rear springs and mini tub the car. Means more work for the back but what the hey. Also still working on a new ifs system for the car. I have most of the components. Just need some time for assembly.

Well I went down yesterday to get some parts and do a little work on the car as well. I kept the automatic with the Hemi and will just add a B&M Megashifter to it. I was reading up and it's a direct fit. A few other truck forums have done it with much success.

I have been reading around on a good rear end and was reading on a Jaguar IRS. I was thinking and remembered I had one sitting in the back junk area of the shop. Freebie.

It's a 77 or 78 sedan, I can't remember which. It's a prime candidate for parting. Hasn't been registered for 15 years. No big deal. I will have to shorten the IRS about 3.34 inches on either side to fit it. Again, no big deal. Now I have plans to minitub the car and possibly remove the whole rear seat from the car. I would be able to run 16x10 or 17x10 in the back.

I also picked up a whole set of Equus gauges for the car. I'll use the original bezel and just remove the originals. They look like this: http://yourautoworld.com/images/JeepParts/performance-white-face-oil-pressure-mechanica.jpg

Other than that, not much on this end for IFS stuff... Yet. But it will be soon.

you can still run the back seat on that car with a mini tub, some guys have narrowed the seat and you cant even tell,,, but cant run the rear seat on a full tub,,,, love the jag rear idea,,,hot rodders have been using them for 45 years,,, look o\ver on the H.A.M.B for that type of info,,,

Yeah I've been doing a lot of research. It just seems pretty straightforward. Just the most time consuming will be the resizing and making a cross member perch.

My front suspension came. I decided to go Mustang II with coil overs. Now I don't think I'll go with drop spindles on the car as the Hemi will weigh the front down a good deal.

So now I have the rear end lined up, new ifs lined up and ready for fabrication and installation. All parts totaled close to $1,100 including brake parts. Installation won't cost a dime. Now I just need to fabricate mounts for the engine and trans.

cool update with lots of pictures. I would like to see everything your going with.

What's also cool is the jaguar ifs is going into my truck. Two projects satisfied by one car. I knew today would be a good day. This weekend I'm going to do some wood work for the console top plates.

Tore out the valiant dash yesterday. Scavenged a lot of useful parts from her. I got my dash pad. Finally.

It looks that the whole way down. Nothing a little steel wool won't clean up. Also, I got a new toy for the Hemi install.

Just using it for a new front suspension. I'll go over to power rack and pinion and disc brakes. Which will be nice compared to manual steering and drum brakes.

im wondering how ??? how are you going to modify the front end to use a mustang coil over set up ?? or are you going with an alterkation type set up ?

I'm pretty far behind where I thought I would be by now. But it's ok, rather make sure everything is done right the first time around. Got my external Australian visor from 48limo on here, thank you. I can't wait to get fit this weekend. I also test fit the a pillar gauge pod I received as well. It's all starting to come together.
I took the dash pad from the valiant home with me last trip so I can strip it, polish it up, prep it and then lay a primer coat on it for protection. I have about 75% to a mirror shine, I need to put some more work into it and really break up some of the surface rust and corrosion. Haven't had a good place to paint as the weather has been shot.

My real goals right now are to pull the jaguar front and rear ends in at least the next 3 months and get the rear installed in the next 6 months. I'm really hoping to have a roller with the mustang 2 front end installed as well. I have everything I need, just no time to do it. The hot rodder's life story! I'll try to get some pics of my current small projects.

spent the better part of a day and a half cutting up the car.

When the heater was opened it was full of dirt and sand. Nice.

securedownload-3-6.jpg

Now with no floors.

Asyou can see the car was pretty rust free and in great shape.

I'm just excited the visor came and I can install it soon.

Wow!! where did you ever find a visor :eek:ccasion::eek:ccasion: That is just to cool :love4:

And all this time I thought you was building a /6 cruiser :blackeye:
Congratulations on the V8 =D>, I have been missing out on some new moves on your 65 barracuda :thumbrig: that cuda's going to scream :burnout:
My son's want me to go with a V8 :iconbigg: I told them they can do that one day :glasses2:.
And I will get everything ells dun :color: Frame connectors and sway bars I will have put on my 66 and keep driving my slant. I just got caught up on this sleeper :love10::love10:
If the air filter wound fit under the hood you can use a turbo carb cap and pipe it to a cool air breather.
I beet that gas peddle is a collector :thumleft:and can not be found anymore with the Moon eye's.

I bet you are working now, or enjoying the new dash install, You sure get around some cool car's :headbang:

The visor was an Australian piece that 48limo sold me. Real solid and unique piece.

Yeah I can't wait for this v8 conversion, it's exciting and the barracuda is going to weigh around 2500 lbs once it's completed. So still pretty light with some substantial horse power.

I'm LOVING your build so far. I have gotten tons of ideas from your thread. I feel like I should share some of mine. I noticed you were getting gauges, if you still haven't installed them, consider these gauges. http://www.newvintageusa.com/1969.html
they are some very very sharp looking gauges and would be perfect for your late Hemi and 65 gauge cluster. I would suggest making a custom gauge cluster out of wood. I am about to do the same thing.
Where did you get the hood scoops from? I love the look of the scoops on your hood.

Whoah! Those are some cool gauges. I have seen some wood bezels made before and on the right paint/ interior scheme it looks great. I'm gonna keep the factory interior and repaint it the original colors. That way to the untrained eye it looks mostly stock.
The scoops I got from BEA parts.

It's moving rather slowly right now, I was able to get 2 jobs so the money is pouring in, but for the first time in 4 years I can rebuild the engine in my mustang. I've gone with that for right now. It's my first car and I have missed it very much.

Sounds like you got a good plan for your fish. :D Thanks! I'll be sure to pick up a pair of their scoops for my project car.

What Mustang? I finished and sold my Mustang a while ago.

1964 1/2 coupe. A nice little cruiser. I drove the car about 7 miles with no oil pump cause I was stuck in the desert with no cell reception at night. F*ck that noise. The engine has needed a rebuild for about 4-5 years now. I'm finally able to do it.

Here it is heading to the shop after about 4 years.

Here is one of my 63 F100. I'm a Ford guy just like my grandpa. My dad is a Chevy guy, he practically disowned me after I got into Mopar! Hahaha.

Very nice! Me and my dad are Ford guys too. He uses an F-150 Lariat for work and as a daily driver. xD We loved our Mustang, but we knew we were upgrading when we bought our Barracuda. xD Right now I'm restoring my 68 Pontiac LeMans and we're both working on his Barracuda.
