1965 Dodge Dart Charger convertible

Today I wire brushed the torsion bars for the hood and had them painted in primer. The bolts, pins, fendertag and the front corners was glassbeaded and painted in primer too.
I took some extra time to mount everything the was it was. A lot of cars are missing to clamp together the bracket that holds the torsion bar for the hood.
I added the screw in the left upper corner and bended the fendertag so there will be some paint on the underside.
Next is the tiny spots of filler!

That looks great Don! I'm too much for factory stuff! But that set up would be way easier and no squiking!

Understand you are strictly by the book! To some extent I am too but like little subtle changes as well. The wagon will be anything but subtle

Great to get th rear seat back into place. Ut before I found out that the cross bar holding the rear seat is stamped with the order number on the fendertag and the radiator support. Never seen that before. Anyone else?

I've been at odds with NC DMV over my 65 Dart GT Convertible because they could not find the VIN stamp on the radiator core support or in the trunk's drip rail on the driver's side. Now I will be able to keep the car's original VIN and tags! Thanks for posting this 65dartcharger!

Finally, my son Kevin helped me weld the 14 holes that were drilled during history.
After masking and a good cleaning I sprayed the engine compartment with a echy primer and what a great primer.
Next will be to add some filler on the welds and sand it down.
I will also glass bead the bolts for the fenders as well as the pins and bolts in the front of the fender which make the assembly line workers to hang the fenders on the body. The hood adjustment pins nuts and the tiny cover plate in each corner will also be done. But since I bougjt this car from the previous owner in Novato, CA the fendertag hasn't been mounted. But tomorrow after it has been glass beaded it will go back just as it used to.
Then it will be time to spray the yellow paint.
I brought five samples of factory paint chips to the paint shop and they did a computer scanning and found a yellow paint called McKenzie bus yellow. Sound like a color from down under! It was spot on compared to the five samples.

Looks nice Ulf. My PPG color was matched to the Pale Yellow OEM, and it was Lamborghini yellow....from their book. Do you use base coat clear coat? They tell me that the acrylic enamels are easier to work with.....just someone's opinion. Keep up the good work. sgrip65

All the masking is off. I think next thing will be to start the re-assembling of the engine compartment.
The masking was a little tricky to remove probably due to waiting too long! The paint dried and on the tejp as well.
First thing out will be to add the un-painted screw that holds the fendertag.

Ulf. Another accomplishment. Looks great. I will be looking forward to a ride in this one when we visit Sweden in 2020......or will it be done? Fun projects these 65 Darts. I don't know if I could do a different car as I have handled just about every nut, bolt, and part in these cars. The yellow looks a bit different than my yellow, but I am sure yours is the correct shade....or could be the lighting. Best to you on your project. sgrip65.

No problem, you are more then welcome.
Adding restored parts really make up for the hours spent on removing old paint and grease!

I am so looking forward to getting all the metalwork/bodywork done on my wagon (sedan delivery) and getting it in the white paint. Then it's all about assembling all the finished nuts and bolts and sub-assemblies!

I really enjoy buying carpets from Legenday! Their supplier Auto Custom Carpet has made the neccesary changes so the carpet fits like the factory models. I'm glad I sent them the dimension so the product developing dept could do their job.
Mounting the carpet was a blast! Now the carpet goes all the way up underneath the fire wall insulation.

Ulf. Wish I would have gone with Legendary. I bought a lesser brand, and it did not fit well. Did your dimmer switch grommet come fitted in the carpet? Great work. JJ

Yes, that plastic grommet was there but I had a mint factory used one in excellent condition.
I thought I use that instead of the other one which is nice but no Mopar logotype on the backside!!
Made some progress today. The a/c unit and the heater box is added. Next will be the adjustment of the two.

Wow that looks very nice. Question the battery box was originally black? Dustin
Actually yes or no!!
The battery box was mounted on the car before it was painted. However the battery box wasn't always mounted before the car was painted and in this case it wasn't there when it was painted. It was just thrown in the car to be mounted further down the line.

Now all the a/c components and heater components are in place. All under dash wiring is hooked up. I was able to repaint the brake booster so that will go on next time.
Assembly times are really goog. New, nos anr restored parts without dirt or grease feels great.
