1965 hemi dart

Kudos....this is an outstanding build. I'm looking forward to how you complete the steering shaft / firewall and the brake master cylinder location modification. I shy away from the Gen III application of the early A because it requires your skills. It is not a simple unbolt the old, drill a couple of holes, and bolt in the new install. Great job!!

Thank you. The column I have fitted all ready. I am using a drag style column to give me some extra room. The master cylinder will be moved inside using a Wilwood reverse mounted setup. This is my first build and I am learning quickly or how tight things get lol.

Made a little bit more progress on the dart. Started building my transmission tunnel. I have never done this. I use bent rods to get a shape and height. The first piece I bent. But came to realize I am not smart enough to figure out how to bend the Bellhousing part. O well cut and weld... FYI the extra hang over on the floor will be trimmed, bent, and then welded to the tunnel from the underside as well. Little by little this project moves on.

Thanks everyone that has liked my pictures or commented on my post. I am super stoked on it so far. I added another piece tonight. I know it may seem to big for other’s but the hole is larger due to me centering my engine and drivetrain. Being a early A body it has a much smaller transmission tunnel. I would have been better off building all new floors but I have never done that and felt this would be something that I can do. First true project build right here. Things can only get better as I move along with it. Learn as I go. I am nothing more then a modern Hot Rodder.

Haven’t updated this is while. Wanted to share a few things. Got the transmission tunnel near done. Well the front half of it. I plan on doing the rear half once I get my rear suspension and axle in place. I started closing off the firewall. I received my in cab mounted pedal assembly. I will order the seats at the first of the year and then the car is off to the chassis shop to get the cage done. While it is there he is going to mount both seats, my overhanging pedals, and steering column. It will all be fitted to me. I can’t wait.

Firewall is now closed off. Now to finish the front half of the transmission tunnel. Then get the engine and transmission back in. Then off to get its 8.50 cage done. Along with mounting the foot pedals, seats, and steering column. So much to finish before February. Pictures are before and after.

Looks great! How do you plan on routing the front pass side brake line? I only ask because I smoothed out the firewall on my 66 and cut off the tabs for that brake line in the process. I wish I hadn't. I spent a few hours today building a front brake line and re-welding a tab to hold it. LOL

All will be in side the car now. Using bulk head fittings to pass through the firewall

I have finally installed my engine and transmission. I fully welded my front half of my transmission tunnel. I learned of a ear on the transmission that somehow I missed while mocking everything before I built my tunnel. I had to modify it slightly. It is in and solid. I will make the top half removable once I get my car back from getting its cage built. Little by little I will get it done.

Car is on the ground. It is ready to get its roll cage. February can’t get here soon enough. Wish my seats would show up lol.

Parts are slowly coming in. Got one seat today. The other is coming Monday and the cover on Tuesday. Then the car is off to get its 8.50 cage done. I am getting excited.

The weather here in Utah has delayed me from being able to drop the car off to get the cage completed. I will have it one more week. So sense I got both of my seats I decided to mock then up just to see how it is all going to fit. I decided I will continue with building my transmission tunnel.

Dude, what a sweet project! I was gonna suggest a bolt or dzus in tunnel but then kept reading and you beat me to it. Seeing how tight that motor fits in there confirms that I indeed wussed out and hit the easy button with my LS Dart. Can't wait to see this thing slaying some tires!

Only got to spend a hr or so in the shop tonight. I was able to bend some more of my transmission tunnel. Next weekend I hope to fit it and weld all of it in place.

Made a little more progress on the car. I ran out of welding gas and had to call it a night. I am learning that making a floor pan may have been easier lol. It’s not finished but here is where I had to end the night. Not bad for some young hot rodder from just learning from seeing other people do it.

Car goes in tomorrow to have its cage, seats, steering column, and pedal assembly mounted. I finished up the transmission tunnel today. I can not wait.

Do you plan on mini-tubbing it?
Yes. I didn’t have enough time to get it done. The car was scheduled to go to shop for its cage work. We measured it out and place the bars. I will do it once I receive the car back. It may be a little tougher now lol.
