1966 Dodge Charger

Officially introduced on December 6, 1965

Though Dodge for some reason held back it's advertising campaign until Christmas Day {December 25, 1965}.

Was supposed to be the 'new' Mid-Sized Sports-Musclecar with a 'Street-Friendly' 383/325 HP Big Block.

With the 383/325 HP, the {#3650 lb. Shipping Weight} Charger was supposed to make a dent at the Drag Strip
in the 'D/Stock' Class.

So much so, that the Southern California Dodge Dealers Association 'sponsored' '4' 383/325 HP Charger's
to compete at the 1966 AHRA and 1966 NHRA Winternationals held in Southern California in February.

One of our old Car Club Guys had a 'white' 1966 Dodge Charger with a 361/265 HP
2-Barrel.

Did the same thing with the American Torq-Thrust Wheels.

Drag Raced it back in 1970 and 1971. Classed in 'M/SA'.

'66 Charger was the first car my friends were crazy for, at the time it was THE coolest car, fastback roofline, hidden headlights and tail lights going ALL the way across the back!!

IMO the 68-70 chargers were the sharpest. But I do love the 66-67 chargers when done right.

There are two in my area for sale.....you'd think the body is lined with gold for how much they want for how rough a shape they are in. But to each his own.

I like that body style the best though.

There are some really sweet looking 1st gen chargers here. I first laid eyes on one in 1967, as a high school student, while working at a local service station. A local drag racer had traded his 66 "goat" for a dark green 67 Charger with torqueflite. The new owner had me fill the tank with "high test" and then wanted me to check the oil, (and I had noticed the badge on the front fender). i think he was just proud of the elephant motor under the hood. It was the first time I laid eyes on a 426 Hemi too, and that made an impression! rayer:

I own two early Chargers. Nice looking cars and not so common.
Both of my Chargers are 383 4 bbl with factory A/C cars. A/T in the black and 4 speed in the silver one.
