1967 Barracuda Fastback- Project: "Not as Nice as Tony Fields'"

-
The rear end rebuild went very well and the car now has 3.73 gears. I installed the correct 273 Commando air cleaner and the rubber hood seals are installed as well. Although she's still sleeping for the winter, I FINALLY tracked down a very nice set of chrome hood inserts for the car. I should have pics of them installed very soon. I'm also in need of a new radiator due to some cooling issues I experienced with the car last summer. Hopefully, I'll get the rad issue resolved before the cruising season hits. Stay tuned!

Well, we had a 70 degree day here in NY and it was a beautiful morning to get some things done on the car that I've been putting off during the winter.

Unfortunately, I forgot my good digital camera. Cell phone pics will have to do...

First, here's a pic of the 273 Commando air cleaner installed:

Then, I removed my old, pitted, peeling, beat up, rattle-can-black, hood inserts and installed the beautiful set I scored from another FABO member.

The old set:

Cleaned up the mounting area (surprisingly dirty):

I added brand new hood insert gaskets as well. (f anyone needs a set of these, I highly recommend the gaskets sold by Detroit Muscle Technologies Inc. I scored these on ebay for next to nothing and they fit great. Quality is top notch. (P/N ABA6767HI01)

Polished them up with some chrome polish and buffed out with a soft towel:

Next up I'll be installing a new trunk mat and the correct underhood insulation. I also have a set of matching BFGoodrich Radial T/A white letter tires for the front of the car. More to come...

Finally got some good pics of the hood inserts, engine bay, and new BFGoodrich white letters mounted on the 15x7 steelies from Specialty Wheel. They're Radial T/A 225/60/15 on the front and 255/60/15 on the rear, for anyone interested.

Beautiful day yesterday, so here are some glamour shots too. I had the car out for 8 hours and put about 200 miles behind me. This car is an absolute pleasure to drive. Check it out...

Still waiting on funds for the radiator install...

I've got the trunk compartment all set up now (masonite board, vinyl mat, and matching tote/tool bag) and the new hood insulation pad installed with the proper clips. I have a beautiful horn ring going on too this weekend. This time I'll remember to bring my camera

your 'Cuda sure does like the camera....nice pics, thanks for sharing

Thanks very much, Denny. My digital camera is nothing special, but the car is doing all the work for me. Glad you liked the pics and I've been following your Duster build for a very long time now.

I haven't updated this thread in 7 months! Thanks SpeedRacerX for the compliment and sorry I missed it for so long.

The update today is that it's 15 degrees here and we're expecting up to 6 inches of snow in some areas tonight into Saturday. The '67 will stay asleep for a while longer... :(

Getting that snow right now here .. I havent seen the buggy in 3 weeks. (I rent a garage 15 minutes from my house to keep the Dart in) .. this winter stuff sucks ***... and your welcome for the compliment.. I meant it for sure.. That car is beautiful

Update:

This summer the Barracuda received a new brass radiator and full 3" TTI exhaust system with H-pipe and the correct tips. I chose SpinTech ProStreet mufflers, and I'm extremely happy I did. The car sounds incredible! There was also an issue with voltage fluctuations due to fried wiring. It's taken care of for the time being, with a new under dash harness coming soon too. Better pics to come...

Still looks great!!!

Was the 3" exhaust pipes a tight fit?

Thank you Tony!!

TTI is pretty much the best in the business as far as I can tell. The exhaust tucks up under the car very nicely and looks as good as it sounds. The chrome tips are icing on the cake!

hi 71 duster 440 i know this thread is kind of old but i was wondering about your chin spoiler... is that off a camaro or something it looks amazing on it
oh and btw your car came out awesome ...i love the color .mine has the 69 stripe with the 360 call out too.

Eight years since the last update... Crazy!

I still have the car. Drive it in fair weather and keep it as detailed as possible. It's been completely rewired, dash and dash pad restored, brass radiator, SVT Contour electric fan upgrade with SPAL controller, Brawler 650 carburetor with Holley fuel regulator, filter and AN lines. Just last week upgraded to a Mopar Performance Proform 110A 1-wire alternator. I'll update with pictures if anyone is still interested...

Yes, pics please!!?!
You got it!

Here’s a poor quality shot of the dash. Gauges done by Redline, dash pad was restored by Just Dashes. Hard work done by Peter Bergman @ Bergman Auto Craft.

Proform 110A 1-wire alternator, SVT Contour electric fan with Spal thermostatic controller. This fan fits a 26” Mopar rad like it came from the factory, by the way. It moves a LOT of CFM.

Here’s a shot of the car just waiting in the garage. My 70 Nova SS is in the shop being rewired, so the Barracuda is alone for once.
