hey guys i already been through this and thought we had everything settled , but the rivets i recieved from ecs and i bought a pair out of canada both were for dash pad vin tag. 70 and up anyway i need some for my door post vin tag state patrol has returned my vin tag and asked to be present when we do put it back on. there was a guy in hemmings that sells these ,don't know if there the right ones. anybody have his name ,phone number and whether they're the right ones for us. and don't know if anyone has this problem where someone removed my vin tag by mistake we found the fed law 511 that states "you as an owner or your agent can remove a vin tag if it is neccesary to restore a part or your vehicle" that is why state patrol returned the tag. thanks

I'm curious how the State Patrol wound up in possession of the tag in the first place -- sounds like an interesting story!

my painter removed it without telling me. we found it in with the nuts and bolts when we were putting car back together.we had read about state patrol replacing removed vin tags so i contacted them and they took my tag said they were going to destroy it and give me a replacement alternate vin. i asked them not to do that and they agreed to wait and see, luckily. anyway , after about 6-8 months they returned my original and agreed to let me refurbish or even get a replacement tag. i had to get all documentation from chrysler historical museum and cross ref the radiator support numbers and trunk rim numbers with the vin numbers on the build sheet. it was a long drawn out process butnow i know if anyone shoulkd ever have their vin tag taken off by mistakle or whatever i know what it takes to get it back on legally
