Been working on the car a bit. Had a power steering leak at the box valve. That was remedied with help from the forum. Thanks!!!

Made it down to the Spring Fling as the real maiden voyage with the air conditioning. It did really well. Nice to see the diversity of all the cars there.

Also spent some time this weekend on the trunk panels. I spent Saturday and Sunday measuring, cutting and fitting. I’ll hopefully get some padding, leather and carpet this week. The leather will match the dash and seat work I’ve done and the carpet will hopefully match the floor mats I have. Wrapping and brackets to follow later on.

Got materials this last week to finish the trunk panels. Little bit of padding, carpet, leather and time. Weather was good and made lots of progress. Have some black paint to add to clean up the trunk edges and striker. Also need to make my brackets for behind the panels so they stay put. Overall, pretty darn happy with the results.

Cheers!

Been working on the car a bit, but have been busy with work, so I’ve slowed down a bit. We made it to the Inland Mopars Show this last Sunday in Riverside. Lots of questions and inquiries about what I had done with the car. Great company, cars and venue.

Looking at the trunk panels I made seemed a little boring to me at the show. So.... I’m working on a design that will go on the front panel. Like the seat emblems I did, it will be CNC billet aluminum and be about 5.5 inches. I’m not looking to reproduce a factory piece, just give the trunk a little bling. Not quite finished, but let me know what you guys think.

Cheers!!

It’s been a while since my last post. I had worked on a package tray for the audio system the last few days. Came out pretty well for my first French seam attempt. Not perfect, but works for me. Also, I followed the seams from the rear seat through to the tray to one, break it up and two, look like the leather was meant to be there.

Cheers.

It looks great!

Love the panels in the trunk ! Great work! BTW, can you still access the spare tire ? Is the bottom panel hinged or do you just lift it out? The CnC'd emblem looks fantastic and will really add a special touch.

Thanks! The floor would just need to be lifted out to get it the spare tire well. I’m still looking for a compact spare that would work with my tire setup. For now, here in Cali, I have AAA roadside service that will tow me 100 miles if needed. The car has some special features for sure. I also did the seat emblems in billet CNC as well.

Got this from fellow member Moparmat2000,

Spare tire that will fit in wheelwell.

2002 Grand Marquis, 16" diameter wheel, 24.5 " overall diameter, 4.5" wide.

This will work perfectly for me. Now all I have to do is locate one!!

Al.

Absolutely an incredible idea for the trunk area. Have you considered a flush mounted pull up latch for getting to the spare tire? You could then put a piano hinge on the front panel and the tire cover lid, possibly incorporating a pair of prop rods to hold the cover up while you get at the spare tire. Did you save all of the dimensions of the panels? I have a 68 Dodge Dart GT and would like to use your idea on my car, if you wouldn't mind. It is such a nice clean look to the trunk instead of the ugly trunk panels. If you did save all of the measurements may I get them from you to do my trunk area. You can always PM me with any information you might have. Incredible job you did by far. Thank you for any help you could give me, Brian (scampman)

Been quite some time since my last update... a long while actually. I’ve had a second car in the works and it’s on the road now. Got back on the Dodge... and only someone a little wacky would pull out a perfectly good running engine to paint the engine bay. I had done the engine and hadn’t known the color of the car before installing it so my son and I painted the bay black. Well, I’m knee deep into renovations. As you can See and may agree.... the changes are for the better. Haha

Cheers!!

It looks so much better with the engine bay painted the body color. I've own 2 67 GT's in the past, one yellow & the other maroon, both with black interiors & both console shift automatics. As of right now, I'm happy with just owning one A body, that being my 71 Demon bracket racer.
