My friend is looking at this 1969 Barracuda, 318 car but comes with a 340 that needs to be rebuilt, it’s not locked up. Has buckets, console, decent deluxe interior, nice dash, good frame and possibly floors...car looks pretty original. Been stored in a dry barn for 35+ years.... don’t know much more, that’s the info and pictures he sent me. Any idea on its value in today’s prices? Tons of valuable parts, but it’s definitely NOT a parts car....thanks for your input!

last one I bought ran and was $450...and a spare 340 was $275 with an extra 273. but it's been awhile.
 
i'll say i paid a little over 5K for a 69 FB 340 car that is in worse shape than that.
 
Looks like an early build (pre Jan. 1 '69) no headrests and the dash is peculiar with the stitching. Still looks like a minimum of a 9k car.

I seen that, I think the pad was redone years back and not correct
 
I think it looks decent and complete. Has the deluxe interior, I'm curious if it has the disc brakes up front. That would be an upgrade for a 318 car and increase its value too. $7-9k
 
Those prices are crazee, I just went through a nice car, surprising what a no rust car ran into with rust. Good luck with it!

this car is a 318 car with a 340 in it.

Some other factors: does it have a 727 Trans and/or 8 3/4 rear end?

says frame is ok. Does it need quarters, trunk, floors ? Looks to have had the vinyl top. How the rust in the roof?

Does the grille have cracks in pot metal grille surrounds? Cracks or missing chunks in plastic grille inserts?
 
Looks pretty good. Deluxe interior, AC. IF there is no serious rust I would say $6-7K. I would accept a little rust (the kind you can fix with hand-made patches, HOWEVER, I would start deducting for any rust that was more serious. My price idea also assumes that most or all the AC stuff is still under the hood. I will also ask the same question I always ask on threads like this. CAN YOU DO ALL, OR MOST OF YOUR OWN WORK??? I can accept that not everybody can paint a car or rebuild their own transmission, but if you can't honestly say that you can adequately do at least 75% of everything that needs to be done, buy a completed car. If you have to pay professionals for a lot of the work on the car, you will wind up with $50+K in it. Granted it would be a very nice car, and you would be getting exactly what you want, but it is something to think about.
 
I just sold a 69 Fastback for 6000 Sold in 5 minutes. Solid body sun baked interior no motor or Tranny. Needing full restoration.

I look at projects as to what they are worth finished to what degree and how many $$ and hours it takes to get it here.
That car will be what its worth finished, with that 340 in it. It will never be a real 340 car. Worth what the cars is worth, plus that 340's value.
Its like my 64 Savoy, a slant car... and IF I finished it with a Max wedge, it is worth the value of the car plus what the engine is worth. It will never be a real max wedge car. A real MW car will always be worth more. The question is what each car is worth.
 
well you know, nice paint, body work stripes, a "clone car" it could fetch a pretty penny to someone who doesn't care more than the aesthetics. But i agree, I have a friend with a clone 70 Swinger , hes always saying $15 grand, or $20 grand I always come back tie "pfft $7500 at best" his feathers get ruffled...:)

Thing is I can stand there and pick everything apart with it he doesnt want to hear it but its truth.
 
When I picked up that 64 slant Savoy, I asked Joe Suchy what it would be worth as a roller with all body metal work done, primed, blocked, and pretty much ready to seal and topcoat. Joe is one of the early B body gurus and has been for decades. He said hard to put a value on them but between $5000 and $10,000 was his opinion.
I see such kind of car, done, with just a decent running BB bring around $18,000 to $20000 or so. (Sure someone can spend $10000 building a BB and trans too, but.) I also see them higher. I see MW clones done, bring $25000 to $35000. Clones, tribute cars. WE see real MW cars, done, bring silly $ also.
Point is the more $$$$ someone pays for any old car, the more he requires perfect work on a real car.
The difference between clones and real, is: 1. cost of a project and 2. cost of parts that make it real. It costs just about as much, in general, to do body/paint, build mechanicals, suspension, interior, etc. as a slant car or a hemi car.
Matching numbers on 69 up engines/trans, those cars are few and far between and always have been. Bogus cars are another subject.
 
I currently have a '67, and in the past had a '68.
That said, I wouldn't give more that $5,000 for one in that condition. These 3 years of cars have some year -specific odd ball parts, and some of those parts are expensive. In the end, they aren't worth a whole lot either - so you have to love them. (personally, I love the fastbacks)

I agree, I just think 5 grand today isn't the same as it was five ten years ago, you'd pay 5 grand and flip it for 7500 which was my low estimate and you'd get it, and not have to do a thing other than tow the car away, maybe pressure wash the dirt off it to make the sale easier for the 7500. Lets face it 2 grand plus for the tow, and the wash ( i kind of deducted 5 bills for the gas time and title transfer etc.

I realize that $5,000 doesnt go very far these days. The right person looking for that car might think it is worth a lot more. For me, since it is a 318 car originally, I wouldn't want to spend too much on the initial investment. If it was a 340 car, then $7,500 in that condition(as far as pictures go) looks like a fair deal for a buyer. Either way, it looks like a nice candidate for a restoration OR a rough cruiser / street machine.

Agree I was just saying i think that would sell for 7500 as quick as it would 5000, and like said if you got it for 5 you'd make a quick buck flipping it. Im not a big Barracuda guy as in I dont know how many were made etc. but i have always liked them and realize they are drying up. Its funny in high school fella I wnt to school with had a notch back, nice car but he wrecked it flipped it on its roof if I recall...these cars were the cheap used cars that our parents let us drive to school As a reference my 70 Swinger 340 , I paid a grand for it in 1993 with 340 and a spare 340. I miss when these cars were cheap...
