Hello!

I have a 1969 Custom 4 Door Dodge Dart with a dash mounted ignition. I pulled the old one out (the one on the right) and was told it was an old model which explains why it turned 360 degrees when the key was inside due to it being a smaller ignition switch. Anyways… I ordered a 1969 Dodge Dart ignition switch (the one on the left) from a guy on this forum, and it doesn’t seem to fit just a new ignition lock cylinder. (Bottom right corner) Is there a part of the assembly that I am missing. I appreciate it.

thank you.

Look like you got the wrong switch.

Here is what a 1969 Dodge Dart switch looks like on e-bay. The same as your switch on the right.

The ignition switch on the right is incorrect for a '69. It's diameter is too small for the dash opening hole. '69 uses a one year only big diameter switch (the one on the left) and respective lock cylinder and bezel. Most models also use a plastic trim surround too. That part isn't necessary to mount the switch however.

jsjs1212 has that plastic piece for sale right now in the interior parts for sale section.

Do you have a ignition lock cylinder for 69'?

Forgive the revival of a 2 1/2 year old topic but people often suggest to do a search before starting a NEW thread.....

1969 is a odd one year only ignition switch.

I'm expecting to take delivery of a '69 Dart with no keys. I'll need to replace the ignition lock and door locks. If the ignition switch is one year only and unique, is the lock cylinder unique too? Online parts searches turn up a wide range of prices between $10 and $50+.

Both the switch and lock cylinder are '69 only. The bezel is '69 only also.

Electrically, and plug pattern, they all work the same, not counting the ground terminal issue I mentioned. It's the way the switch is mounted into the dash. '60-67 have a small nub that fits a notch in the dash panel to keep the switch from spinning as you turn the key. '68 uses a slot. '69 is much bigger in diameter. Starting in 1968, the plug started coming with latch ears that clipped onto two cleats built into the switch housing.....supposedly to prevent the plug from falling off the switch (which I've never seen happen, but, I guess is possible). As for the ground terminal.....'60-4, no ground terminal on any I've seen. '65-7 have one. I've seen both with and without a ground terminal on both the '68 and '69 switch. I suppose it had to do with which model it was mounted in, as some dashes used more plastic than others.

Geez, this isn't a parts wanted ad. If you are looking for parts you need to start an ad like everyone else does. There's a lot of good information in this thread. I would hate to delete it and lose it all.
