I have replaced the hood on my 340 Swinger and now have to drill the holes in the hood for the hood pins. My car came with factory pins. What is the diameter of the holes to drill in the hood for the chrome bezels for the pins? Also when attaching the bezels the four screws go in an X pattern, is that correct?

holes are actually elongated and round at both ends so the pin doesn't bind as the hood goes down in an arc (as opposed to straight down like a lift off hood). It's hard to get you a diameter since you can't get to the hole from top or bottom when the bezels are in place. I'll check if I have a stripped hood with the holes in my body parts shed in the morning.

I've had a few factory hood pin cars in the past and the holes were the same size as the hole in the bezel, I don't know exactly the size though. You are correct on the x pattern maybe someone will know the exact size.

Thanks for the reply. I will wait for a size if someone else has it.

Thanks for the reply. If you have a stripped hood could you post a picture with a tape measure near the hole for reference?

Sorry, I didn't see your response until just now, so no pictures. I found a damaged original 340 Dart hood with the bezels stripped off. The hole is 3/4 of an inch wide and 7/8 inch long (from of car to back). Sighting through the hole that is in the hood underframe, I believe the the extra 1/8 inch is toward the front edge of the hood, with the back of the hole centered on the pin location when the hood is closed. The hole in the hood frame is even more elongated which makes sense (1 inch wide, 1 1/4 long).

Perfect, thanks, that makes sense from the way the pin would sit when the hood is closed.

Let us all know how this goes. I have to do the same thing with a non-pin 340 hood in a few months.
