Hi Folks

Will be installing a 6 bow headliner this weekend in my '71 Demon. My question relates to the areas on the left and right side of the rear window/package tray area.

I compared 2 vehicles....a 1970 Duster and a 1971 Demon. The Duster had cardboard inserts installed under the headliner in that area (see pic).

The Demon, on the other hand has nothing. The fabric is just stretched tightly over the metal and attached with those pointy teeth.

Since I do not know the history of either cars, I would like to know how that area was dealt with in an original Demon.

Thanks FABO

They all get the cardboard sail panels. All my 70 and 71 cars had the cardboard. And I stripped many of them. You have one they are the same for both sides cut them out of a better material.

Thanks @Oldmanmopar

Unfortunately, I don't have any. All I have are these (see pic).....They fit in the same area, and are covered with headliner material. Do you think they will suffice as a backer for the new headliner?

I see that Classic lists a whole bunch of different types for the '71 Demon.

You could make a template with cardboard use that to make a couple panels out of your material of choice. I did that for similar panels for my '66 Dart. I used thin aluminum sheet and riveted it in before laying down some insulation followed by the headliner.

I have a bunch of originals for patterns. I could tape some paper together and trace it on and mail it. I bought those same panels you did. They are not close. I think they are for a 72-76 swinger. do you have the clips?

What is the purpose of the backer? Does the headliner get glued to it?

The only clips that I have, I suspect, are from door cards.
