Yes, all 1971 cars had the 1970 California emmisions. For 1971 the cars still had the exhaust tips. In 1970 in California, you had turndowns, no tips.
Since no one answered, I did some checking. Looks like there are a few places making 1970-2 correct parts. I just opened the box that was sitting on the shelf and this is what was in it. Glad I finally looked! If anybody comes up with trunk mats for 1970-2 that don't have the cut out for the braces for 73 and up, please let me know. Last time I bought correct material and cut my own...
California mandated exhaust turn-downs to aim the exhaust gasses down instead up (or straight out). The theory was that exhaust gasses are heavier than air, and given proper nudging, less would become smog. I'm not sure the theory passed the long-term testing though.Fine progress! I wonder what "they" thought the elimination of exhaust tips did for emissions? lol
my understanding is/was the reason for the turn-down exhaust was less noise emitted with turn-downsCalifornia mandated exhaust turn-downs to aim the exhaust gasses down instead up (or straight out). The 1971-2 Canadian Special 340 cars have the same exhaust tips As the 1970 Dart Swinger 340 cars.
