Newbie here so please pardon the questions. I recently bought a '71 H-code with 727 trans, and it has a Cheetah SCS floor shifter/console that I plan to replace with an OEM floor shifter and center console. I've already purchased the "coffin" OEM center console with mounting brackets and OEM shifter assembly (wood grain knob) with linkage down to the trans shift lever.

I notice that the OEM shifter assembly doesn't have a pointer/needle to confirm which gear letter/number on the clear shift selector lens the shifter stick is in. I have the #57 bulb and socket for the shift selector assembly so I presume the clear lens is backlit. Not yet having personally seen an installed console/shifter in an A-body, is there supposed to be a pointer/needle on my shifter assembly? If not, I'm curious as to how the selected gear on the clear lens is indicated when moving the shifter stick? Thanks FABO nation.
