Hello Friends

What would you do for a rust free Duster?

Here we have a 1971 Mexican Spec Chrysler Duster.

Under the hood is a 225 slant 6 linked to a floor shifted 3 speed manual. I think the shift lever was moved to the floor.

This, being an early car, has the Sharktooh grille which is a style sought after by Duster aficionados.

At the rear are the early horizontal tail lights.

The interior features black vinyl front bucket seats. The black vinyl continues in the rear.

The original steering wheel with the horn ring is in place. That is a rare piece in and of itself.

It is riding on its original rally wheels with the center caps in place.

This is a solid car with no rust and as an early car makes it desirable.

What would yo make this car into?

Here is the break down on the cost of the vehicle. The vehicle itself will be $8,700 dollars. Transport from where it is to the Nogales Arizona border $950 dollars for a total of $9,650 . This price includes transport from Central Mexico to the border at Nogales. We are paying almost $6.00 US per gallon of gasoline or diesel.

Lately the exchange rate has been all over the place so please ask for an up to date price.

If you have any questions about the importation process, I will be happy to answer them.

* We Can Now Offer US Delivery * - What this means is we can cross the car and you as the buyer would need to pick it up in Nogales Arizona or arrange transport to your location.

I know the thought of buying from Mexico makes people nervous.

I can provide references from my previous clients if necessary.

Question(s)!

What size rims? 14 inch?
What size rear end? 7-1/4?

Thanks for your time.

For everyone else, Mexican Spec has always been a straight up no nonsense excellent member who gets my thumbs up. He also makes really nice plastic lights. Example, tail lights, marker lights, etc….

I will get that information for you.

I think some are waiting for pre paint job pics to see what bodywork may have been done.
I have requested more pictures, but I doubt they would have pre paint pictures.

Keep in mind there is no financial benefit for somebody in Mexico to slap together one of these for sale. The market does not pull big money on these so very few get redone.

There are so many nice original cars still out there for decent prices it doesn't pay to fix and paint a rusty car.

Now saying that everything is possible.

Listed as a rust free car is what caught my eye.

My problem is the additional cost of getting it from Nogales to Illinois. Is Nogales the only border town it can be delivered for transfer, Laredo for instance could be closer for me anyway ?

I'll admit, buying from out of country is a bit unnerving but Miguel has been on here over 10 years and is vouched for. So, there's that.

Japan is a poor comparison. I lived in Japan, and I can tell you if I lost my wallet with $5000 cash in it I would feel confident that it would be returned to me with the cash intact. I've also traveled to Mexico many times a loooong time ago and I would expect to never see my cash or wallet again. It is not the same. JS Likewise if it happened here in the states I wouldn't expect to see it either.

I've never imported a used car however and the rules have changed in the last couple years. I would be curious what the other fees would be, ie. duties, tarrifs, other taxes, import fees, etc. Could you weigh in on this a bit Miquel ?

The "rust free" claim means zero without at least pictures BEFORE the recent paint job.

The price shown is delivered to Nogales Sonora. The fee for the customs agent is $250.00 and there is a 2.5% duty of the declared sale price.

I have an associate that can cross it, he has to come down from Chandler Arizona to do it, and there is an extra fee for that. He had to apply to US Customs for an ID badge in order to be able to do that.

I have a message in to my customs agent to see if the proposed 25% tariff would apply to the cars I sell. That might only be new items. I will post the answer here as soon as I get it.

Not this isn't the only one available, there are a lot of rust free Dusters of all model years. They are all 225 slant 6 cars and some are manual and others are automatics. The Super Bee Dusters were the only V8 cars.

The ultimate price depends on the exchange rate and that is fluctuating right now in the favor of the buyer. The higher it goes the fewer dollars are needed to buy the car.

Also 101proof said this "At this price you would be better off just driving to Mexico and paying the owner the $2,500 he is actually asking for it!".

That is not a good idea. 2 hours south of me 2 cartels are fighting it out and people are dying every day. You have to know where you can go and how to get there. Another point is the military have stops on the highway to check you and your car out. They stopped me at one and because I am white the head guy thought I was from the US that had come here to buy a car. He asked for all the money I had, and he intended on taking it. I had very little so he asked where the rest was. I told him it is in my bank account where our IRS department wants it.

It is not as easy to just drive here, drive down to Mexico City and bring a car back. There are a lot of dangers and if you don't know how to navigate it, you may lose everything.

The price I charge includes you not having to go through that, I deal with all of that.

You can check with any buyer of my tail lights here on how I handle my business. I handle it the same when I sell a car. I am still in touch with every buyer I have sold to before and we talk often.

If any of you have any specific questions please let me know.

Thanks

Miguel

You are saying this to make it perfect. It took me years and years to give myself permission to not have to make a car perfect. Some others have gotten there as well.
Mexicanspec...is there such a thing as " carfax" or something like it in Mexico that gives info on a cars " crash history" that would probably tell if there was any major body work that would affect the structure as rust is not likely an issue, personally I think to find the early desirable year duster already set for a manual trans with what looks like a decent interior and paint for that price is better than buying a rust bucket some where else, now I'm in Canada which would complicate things further BUT if I were in the US especially any where near the border I still see value here, just my two cents which with the Canadian dollar right now ain't much! Lol

No there is nothing like Carfax in Mexico, but then again Carfax is only for newer cars.

If a car was totaled by an insurance company it would have an invoice from that insurance company.

Shipping the car over the water I might be able to get it closer to you but I would have to ask my contact at the shipping company.

On these older cars I look at the panel gaps to see if they are as they should be. If they are then it is unlikely it was in a serious accident. The car is still over 50 years old.
