I believe this is called a hot idle compensator?
Does anyone know how it is removed without damaging it?
Does anyone know if one is available somewhere?
Is it possible to eliminate it and plug it?
Thank you.

Does the carb # [ stamped on the mounting foot ] start with a 4 or a 6?
I am betting it is a 4.
I also see a broken/missing sec t/blade screw.

It's a 4973s...yes the screw is missing. I actually have two 4973s carbs and a 1972 thermoquad and I am making one good carb from the three. I am not using the base plate in the pic. The other carb does not have the hot idle compensator so I am trying to remove this one.

It was a fix to help A/C equipped cars idle better when heat built up under hood. Plug it if you can. If it doesn't work perfectly, it'll mess up the mixture.

I saw an article or video Steve Dulcich in which he disabled one. I'm not sure where, but if you look you may find it.
