1972 318 timing

Hi again,

I just changed the intake on my 318 and need to adjust the timing. Based on my memory the factory says 6 to 8 BTDC.

Now the setup is clode to factory but with this:
Stock 318, automatic
Edelbrock Performer intake
Holley 1850 carburator
Headers
Dual 2.5" exhaust

Also, to time the thing I think I reed somewhere that it needs to be:
warm engine
Trans in neutral
Vacuum disconnected from the distributor and plugged at the distributor and carb.

Any advice on the timing? Degrees? How to?

I think I'd go to 10 or 12 degrees timing, if it pings, back it off a little.

I like to set it to total timing at 2000-2500 of 34-36.

I will have to read on that "total timing" thing, it's not the first time I see that, and I don't know what it means.
