'72 340 LA engine, block casting # 2780930-340-1, casting date is 1-15-71. Numbers stamped on pad in front of block below head are MH 340 R 38858011. VIN pad is difficult to read but "2B" is clearly visible. Running 340 engine with fresh (never run) 587 heads installed. Engine has not been run since fresh heads were installed. Standard bore block. Complete long block engine. No knocks, no noises, no smoke. No accessories. $800.00 or trade for Mopar parts/E-body parts. Looking for B/RB engine 915, 516 or 906 heads and LA engine 894 or 915 "X", "O", "U" and "J" heads, Performer/RPM/Air Gap intakes, '67-'70 440 long blocks. Call with what you have. Can you try to get the VIN, that's REALLY close to the dates my missing engine would have been built.
 
So a 1-71 casting date can be correct for a 72 ? I'm just confused...dang.

The engine wasn't built until around mid march 1971. Be for an early 72 car based on the stamping so far.

i think they misplaced the 340 that was in your old demon C, it was cast 7/70 it was assembled 11/16/70, and didn't make it into the car till 4/02/71 4 and a half months after it was assembled.
