Hello,

I am rebuilding a 1972 Dart. I will use a 340 with a 230 3 speed transmission. The car will also have a 8.75 742 Rearend.

I am going to have a propeller shaft built, and I wanted to run my plans by you gys to make sure I am going in the right direction:

What I believe is that the shaft will need to be at least a 2.75" diameter tube and the shaft length will be 49.57" center of front joint to center of rear joint.

Is this correct? Can I use a bigger tube (3.5")?

I need to confirm the Slip yoke that I should be using (35 tooth spline? part number?) and ujoint size (dana 1330?)

Am I headed in he right direction?

Also, if I decide to install an 833 4-speed later, will the same shaft work?

Thanks,

Pete

When you have everything together see your local driveline shop.

I'd use 3" AL if it's stock or slightly modified over using stl.

joint series is all on the total application as is diameter

You can get away with 3.5, you will need to use bigger slip yoke, rear yoke & 1350 uni.
See your local drive shaft expert.
