Hello my Name is Steve and last year I purchased the car I've dreamed of since Jr. High (im 53 now). I thought everything I needed for this car would be available thru the aftermarket. Well last week at the Mopar nationals I learned steel front fender reproductions are not available for the 1972 dart swinger. I'm confused because the 1971 fenders look identical. does anyone know the difference? Can I weld a piece off my 72 fender on a 71 to make it work? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Yep, weld up the 71 marker light hole and drill holes for the 72 marker light.

Like stated above, fenders are the same except for the side marker lights. 72 was a one year only fender so it will likely never be reproduced.
Patch in the old marker light hole then make the cutout for the new style marker light. A die grinder and air file makes quick work of it.
Another option is to patch in the old style marker lights on the quarter panel and make it look like a 70-71. Just be aware that the early side markers are hard to find and expensive compared to the cheap 72+ ones.
