while we have the engine out and apart, we figure it might be a good idea to replace the crusty looking freeze plugs.

The freeze plugs on the rear of the block look great, so we're concentrating on the sides of the block.

Looking for advice.

What size are the freeze plugs?

What method is people using to pop the old plugs out?

What are people using to seal the new freeze plugs?

Thank you in advance for the help.

Theres a freeze plug kit.i paid like 11 dollars.
I just did mine.
Punch and hammer, turn them in the hole then grab with a vise grip and pop em out.
Buff the holes with a wire wheel or a flapwheel.
I used a socket slightly smaller than the cup and drove them in.
Red loctite to seal.

I guess they don't look "horrible". But more of a "while we're here" snowball. Lol

Thank you very much. They appear to be 1 5/8". I will look up the kit thank you again

My original thought was to pull them with a slide hammer, but it sounds like popping them sideways and pulling them out is the preferred method.

Go to NAPA they will have a complete kit for the engine under $20.

Qual Cast 97-11
Sealed Power 381-4014
Clevite 219-9420
U.S. Tool EPK11
Pioneer Inc. PE113

what tooljunkie said, only i would stay away from the flapperwheel, to abrasive in my opinion
(that and $20.00 will get you a cup of coffee)

Mae sure you get the brass freeze plug it. They don,t rust out.

Awsome. Brass it is. Thank you very much for the help and advice

Pioneer P113B brass freeze plug kit should be in at the parts store this afternoon. And I'll pick up a tube of red locktite to install them with.

Thanks again for the advice.
