I have come across a 1998 Toyota Camry with less than 100000 miles. I don't have any details on options right now. It was an older lady's car. Just wondering if anyone has any experience with these as far as reliability and such for a drive to work car. Thanks.

Good car. I was road testing one, seemed to have good visibility.

Thanks to all for the replies. You all confirmed what my wife and I were already thinking.

I've been playin' the "hey theres another '98 camery" game for 10 years now! I bought one for my x back then. It had a tiny oil leak but I think she still driving it. Solid little cars

Yes, good car if taken care of even half the time

Yup, as much as I dislike Toyota, as a small people mover it's hard to beat the camry

Any chance it is silver?
If I ever knock off a bank and need a get away car, it will be a silver camry

Great car not sure if it’s the V 6 or 4 they are real critical on oil change and filter when due , if they have been up to date grab it . Panels are galv so it shouldn’t see any rust Super reliable. The wife had the v 6 fully loaded great car and super reliable but the rear main seal had gone on it 300k ended up up buying her a 2012 Corolla not sure if you have those there 1.8 auto runs really well.

My wife and I have a 1998 Toyota Caldina in our fleet - Caldina is a model basically the same as the Corolla and Camry. Engine in ours is a 4-cyl 2.0 litre gasoline....with automatic + overdrive. It has been a very good car since we first bought it. Serviced regularly, it has approx 165,000 miles on it. Runs quietly and is relatively good on gas.

I would trust Toyota above most other makes as a daily driver. As long as they get the regular service and the timing belt is changed at the recommended intervals....they last forever.

If the timing belt and water pump havnt been done, do it. The scheduled maintenance is critical

Couple years back, buddy of mine was looking for a car for his daughter. He asked me to go with him to check out the 3 possible choices, one was a Saturn, another one was a Neon, and the third was a 99 Camry. All were around the same mileage and within a few hundred dollars in price. He was leaning towards the Saturn, his wife has one, factory ordered. The Neon was a complete POS, the Saturn had bearing issues and some body damage, while the Camry a few more miles and a little bit of rust. He went with the Camry, it was a bit more than he was planning to spend, but almost 3 years later, she's still driving it and is very happy with it. Has around 250k miles on it now.

The 4 cyl. is nearly prefect. Easy to work on. I have a 96 4 door with 283 K miles and a 96 2 door with 292 K miles.
The 6 cyl. camrys had more transmission failures than the 4 cyl.

And a real ***** changing those rear plugs , never had any trans issues just the rear main leak which was sad as it was a really decent and reliable car , always serviced even though it was the v6 it got 700ks per tank highway and in the mid 6s mixed .

If it's a 4 banger it's a lifetime car..... They have crap for Book value and this gen Camry is one of the best buys in the used market if you find a clean one with 100k on the odometer...

Just say NO to Toyota Nissan Honduh Kia and Hyundai PLEASE

Perfect daily driver material. Rock-solid reliable, great on gas, and... boring. The upside to the latter is, you'll appreciate the nice day rip rides in the old Mopar even more. Snap it up before someone else does.

As stated all above, rock solid reliability. Find out when the timing belt and water pump were done. Valve cover gasket will create a big leak and ..AND when the cam and crank seals go, they GO!

Perfect people mover.
I ex wife gave one to my daughter, not sure of the year, but they ran the crap out of it, a leaky rear main seal finally killed it.
My cousin bought his wife a newer one, around a 2018, maybe even newer, we took it on a road trip, around 3 hrs to the nationals, I could hardly get out of it, the seats were so bad, my legs went numb.
