2 1/2" vs 3" Exhaust Comparison Video

-
I just want to see if I get something in the ball park as all the magazines do.

And inbetween, follow the old Mopar "Speed Tips" section. Them post up what the old combos made.

COME ON LOTTO!

I found that video quite intresting and just like someone else in this thread slightly anoying that they did not correct that airfuelratio isue with the smaller exhaust. but still valuable.

An interesting episode for sure. Especially how little power loss there was with how long of pipe they had.

If you're ever wondering what exhaust to run on your setup. Consult this chart.

It explains it all. But in short. A certain amount of horsepower flows a certain CFM. And a certain CFM requires a certain pipe size. Not really as complicated as it seems. I am going 3 inch on my setup. It's a lot. My 340 is really only going to put out 420ish horsepower. But I will be running nitrous. And with that I can definitely hit close to 600. Not to mention I will be doing head and cam work this winter and should end up in the 475 area N/A. 2-3/4 pipe being difficult to find I went 3 inch. Am I worried about torque loss down low? Not really. I'm going with an H pipe setup which should help balance things out. Going from manifolds and 2-1/4 to full length headers and 3 inch exhaust should make a serious improvement in my power. I'm curious to see what it does.

Yes those charts are usefull and quite good to get into the ballpark, but lets not forget that there are other variables to it aswell, different combinations tend to be more or less sensitive to exhaustsystem sizing.
You can also use larger than needed tubing to get a different tone,in general larger tubing will create a deeper tone.

And alitle something to think about. A whole lot of GM cars and trucks from the late 80´s and early 90´s used 2 3/4" or 3" single exhausts fromY-pipe to muffler with way less than 300 hp and i doubt they used the larger tubing without reason. Look at pretty much any random gm car or truck with a 350 from that era and most of them where rated at about 200hp
