Okay, having some issues with over charging on the Duster. Here is what I have.

70 Duster with an unknown engine wiring harness in it.
New voltage regulator, 2 wires from it, green and blue.
New alternator with one field connector.

When the blue wire is connected to the alternator, it charges, but at idle it's at 14, at 2k it's at 17 and at 3k it's above 18.
When the green wire is connected, it doesn't charge.

So, the basic question is, since I only have 1 field connection, do I ground the green connection, or tie it into the blue connection, or what?

I can provide voltage and ohm readings here in a bit after I chase the youngest back to homework.

Thanks,
Scott

You cannot use a 70/ later regulator with an early alternator

UNLESS you can do like the rebuilders do and figure out how to install an insulated brush

Your choices are:

get the correct 70/ later alternator

modify the one you have (unlikely)

or get the 69/ earlier regulator

Thanks, picked up a different alternator for a 75 Dart and now it's working correctly. At idle the voltage shows between 14 and 15 and it's steady whatever the rpm's.
