My 1972 3-speed manual Plymouth 340 Duster has the following issues,

1 - Why do all my lights shut completely off when I hit the high beams?

2 - Why does my car fire right up from a cold start but take forever to start when it's warm.

Long crank on hot start is usually a fuel boiling or leaking issue. Make sure you have the thick insulator gasket under the carb. If your passenger exhaust manifold still has the EFE valve in it make sure it is not stuck closed or partially so causing excess intake manifold heat from the crossover. If it is a Holley carb it could be a leaking power valve. A more detailed description of the engine and fuel system would help.

It is a 1972 340 4-barrel, 3-speed manual, original engine and trans

If you have electronic ign, check the reluctor gap in the distributor and get it to .007"/.008" with a non-metallic brass feeler gauge.

I had a new one that was .030" and it would start cold, not hot. After adjusting the reluctor gap, never had a starting issue again....

I would try changing the foot dimmer switch first, they are not that expensive and if that doesn't fix it, then you need to look at the wiring.

Yeah I read that part. I have so many Mopars I can't remember what the build sheet says they came with and most aren't "original" in that regard anyway so.... Thermoquad, AVS, Holley?

I'll try this first

So if it is a Thermoquad the well seals may be leaking down and you have a flooded condition. Does is smell of gas when the starting issue occurs or puff black smoke?
