I've spent many hours reading the threads on this website, but I figured it best to start a new thread of my own to address any particular issues that I may have. Please let me know if any of you knowledgeable folks see any flaws in my plan.

Heres what I have:
1971 Dodge Demon (318/904)
2010 eagle 5.7 truck engine (No cam or lifters as it wiped a cam lobe)
2006 truck harness (plan to pinout the harness for my needs)
2006 computer (I know 05 is preferred, can the 06 be used?)

Heres what I need:
MDS elimination kit MPR53032221AA (shophemi.com)
Oil filter relocate MPR53021610AF (shophemi.com)
TTI headers TTI61HC-c4 (TTIexhaust.com)
TTI motor mounts 57MMA (TTIexhaust.com)
Comp XFI273 Cam 249-112-501-11 (Jegs)
Comp non MDS lifters w/eliminator kit 312-53032221AAK (Jegs)
Milodon oil pan MIL-31000 (modernmuscleextreme)
Milodon centre sump pickup MIL-18331
Napa coolant Hoses NAPA9128 (upper) NAPA7515 (lower)
Cam Phaser lockout kit CMP-5760 (shophemi.com)

If there is anything that I am missing or if you have any questions please feel free to post it up.

You are mixing two very different animals.
That cam wont go in the vvt engine. Reluctors are different also, so computer isnt correct.... gonna take some research.

You can put an old reluctor into the new engine, but you also need a custom timing set that would allow the old computer to be used.

IMO, You are honestly better off abandoning the harness and ecu you have, and getting an aftermarket harness/ecu for the vvt engine. Put a vvt era cam in it, even with a vvt limiter or lock.

Vvt era oil pickup is also diff than pre 09

Thank you very much for the clarification Johnny. I have considered hotwire and Megasquirt so at some point today I will make a decision on which to use and order it up.

Also, I lookes at a VVT compatible cam through modernmuscleextreme, are those suckers ever expensive!!! ouch!

Best bang for the buck, 6.4 SRT auto cam. It's like 70 bucks from Mopar. I've done a couple of 5.7 VVT engines with this cam. Wakes it up! Also have used the Hotwireauto harness and computer. Easy-to-use and can keep the vvt, and, delete the MDS.

Thank you very much for that! I was researching vvt performance cams and was horrified by the price.
So would I just pair that cam with a set of non mds lifters (since I want that removed) and use the mds eliminator kit for the plugs on top of the block?

Yep! Make sure you use Non-MDS yokes, too. The lifter bodies on the MDS are a little bigger. If you put a Non-MDS lifter in a MDS yoke, it is too sloppy. Allows the lifter to rotate slightly.

So essentially I should be looking for lifter yokes from an earlier engine, that didnt come with MDS?

I believe if you go with the 6.4 cam, you also need different springs and pushrods due to the lift. Also I would go with hellcat lifters as they are pretty beefy compared to stock older versions. Maybe someone can correct me if I'm wrong but I read somewhere that dodge used msd lifters in older engines but were never activated. I haven't tore into a older block to see the lifters myself to verify this but something I read somewhere.

Well I corrected myself, here is a add for stock oem non msd lifters with years and applications, if that helps

So to clarify, I will now be using the 6.4 cam with mopar non mds lifters. What about pushrods guys, will I use the early non MDS engine pushrods and valve springs?

I have put the 6.4 cam in the Eagle engines. Left the 5.7 springs and pushrods. No issues.
