It's great to speak to someone that was there at the time.I did have 265 4 speed Charger, as well as an E38 4 speed Charger please don't tell me that they didn't build them as there were only a couple ever built. I also had a std. 770 318 charger that car was later fitted with a 68 Barracuda Formula S 340 engine with a 4 speed .That 340 was quickest car that I drove at the time, I also had an '70 R/T Challenger at that time as well & that wasn't far behind the Charger. AHHHHH the memories, fast cars going by just like life. I love the photo of HT Monaro
Good Reply : there's a 'Big Tank' R/T Charger over here. Pretty sure its been here from new...( apparently ine of about 3 to certain spec built - you'll know the midel) .
I'll post a couple of Pics of the Prices of Chargers for sale here now.
Thanks about the Monaro, that Pic slipped in ! (I was looking at gallery in another tab & must a glitches. ) its off the Sydney production line from the batch of bodies done for the '69 Bathurst 350's Colin Bond etc, Had it 35 years now, bought when you could afford them - its matching numbers..
Hang around for those charger pics.
The 318 770's were nice cars with their Auto floor shift consoles. The main release 255/265's here were the 770's with higher spec interiors std. Dad was the "Go to" guy for Todd motors (Was contracted to Chyrsler NZ importer in the '50's with the Canadian CDK '55-57 Dodges ,& Plymouths to uograde with extra Trim from base'r models, to get around import restructions : much like "Local Content" in Aust) who did them in the '70's with his (& other colleagues) business, I grew up in, trouble shooting weird ignition etc noise problems: ( like the voltage regulator static on the radio from the instrument panel, for 1 model Valiant, that needed extra earthing. Suppressing & filtering) Fun thing was I got to see behind scenes delevopment, alterations , etc STILL remember that 1ST 3 Weber Valiant Coming in & its 800-900rpm odd idle: you had to hear it with the bonnet up.
Did you know Todd Motors NZ used to fit a Pacer (about 213hp think Cam) Cam Std in the "Std" 203hp-230hp "Unofficial" HP 265's... Was in the Parts rack dept at the assembly plant when a bunch of Factory cams came in after being measured at a well known Cam grinders ( RIP Ron Rutherford) Chrysler NZ wanted to "Keep the Edge" on the Valiant Success after/during its VF etc 4 Door V8 Auto sedan success in The Benson & Hedges supported Circuit Racing Series at the time.
Got any Photos of your Valiants ?.
Cheers T
PS trying to load up few pics to reminisce to.
