273 245 hp engine

-
What carburetor is on it 2 or 4 barrell if its a factory 4 barrell then it could be a 235 hp 273 only real way to tell is pull a head off and see if the pistons are domed for the 235 hp or the flat tops that the 2 v carbs have

4 barrel carb and dual point dizzy would be your first clue. Domed pistons would confirm. May be able to see the domes by removing a spark plug and using a flashlight

I do NOT think that you can tell if it was originally built as a 245 HP engine - there are no markings on the engine to determine it is a "Commando" engine.
So I think you need to take off the cylinder heads to see if it has the high compression pistons.

True. You need to see the tops of the pistons. If they are domed they are the hi-po's. If they are flat tops with 4 valve reliefs you have a 185 hp. motor.
Just a note: the HP engine was a 235 hp motor and not 245 hp. toolman

As you're aware, there's no markings on the block.

4bbl & Dome-Top Pistons are first clue, if its an original engine, it would also have the stronger valve springs, No way to tell on those without testing them.

If you're going to rebuild it, what does it matter? If your just curious, put the car on a dyno and see what it puts out.
