Leanna...those are all '67 covers...large bracket and rubber grommet. The large bracket is in the same place on the '66 covers. Those look GOOD!!!

Thank you! Wasn't sure on the years myself (though 65Dartman's tried his best over and over to teach me to tell them apart lol) but I knew I had close ups of the big wiring harness bracket.

Here's another piece of trivia. You'll notice on 3 of the 4 covers' aluminum fins in Leanna's pics, there's a slot between the 2 plug wire-holder areas. Those are '67 fins, and use the 1-piece, 2-place plastic plug wire insulators, being they have a retaining tab that slides into that slot (2nd pic below). The fins without that slot are '65/'66, and they use the round, individual plastic plug wire insulators (1st pic below).

65Val! Thanks for clearing this matter up! I know about the plastic plug wire holders but I didn't knew that there was a different between the 65s and 66s!But thats what it's all about here on FABO, you never stop learning!

After working up close to thirty sets of these valve covers over the years, I can say it isn't unusual to have both slotted / unslotted aluminum fins on the same "set." It was probably just typical Ma Mopar to use whatever they had lying around.

It's not using "just what they had laying around". It's people without a detailed eye piecing together a "set" of valve covers.

Bama...I apologize for hijacking your thread. I will stop now!

Hey 65Val, it ain't hijacking unless you are trying to sell the same thing in my post. I am glad you chimed in, because now I know the way to tell all of them apart. I had bought many sets on ebay, and had 4 sets powder coated by Leanna, two for me, and two to sell. Amazingly enough, I got the right ones for my 65 Valiant and my 65 Barracuda project car. Keep up the good info, unless we all lose it over time. David

SOMEBODY buy these!

Has anyone tried these for the plastic plug wire inserts? They look pretty close.

http://www.jimsautoparts.com/engine_ignition_parts.htm

"FW-395R -- SPARK PLUG WIRE RETAINER - 66-68 A, B & C Body Small Block 2 & 4 Barrel (holds two wires on top of the valve covers; snaps into metal tabs; natural nylon)"

And $5.95 apiece, not bad.

It looks like they have a part number of DI-301 shown for the other style pictured above in 65Val's Post #28 too ...

"VALVE COVER GROMMET - Used on 273, Big Block & Hemi engines (round, white plastic, insulates the ignition wires from valve covers or wire routing brackets)"

... but those are a whopping $2.95 each.

Leanna...I have the 2-wire ones on my '67 Dart Commando covers. They are an exact repro of the originals, and work and fit perfectly on the '67 fins with the slots..
