235 hp how do I know if its the real deal or lets say the original motor that came with the car?

Thanks
Dan
:afro: know what im sayin?

If it's a '67 and older engine, there is no way to prove for sure it's the original engine. You can only get close on the date codes cast into the block and the numbers stamped into the left front of the block. There is nothing to identify a 2bbl or 4bbl block or heads. They use the same castings. You can tell if the car came with a 2bbl or 4bbl by the VIN and/or fender tag.

The only way to verify a real commando motor is to check the pistons. The commando motors had 10.5:1 compression with with dome tops. Commandos also came with a more agressive camshaft. Everything else was the same and could be bolted to the 273 2 brl motor.

Pistons and cam can be changed too so finding them or not finding them means very little.

Commandos came with dual point distributors and black valve covers if I remember correctly, but both can be had. Its all in the pistons and cam.

Re the numbers the casting on the block and heads, it should be between one to five month earlier then the assembly date on the car.
