Real Hot Rods don't shift themselves.
Talking to my builder this afternoon. He will let me know if I'm wasting my time or going to be that unique guy showing up at the cruise night. (with empty pockets)
It's all up to you. So far here you have 6 pages of comments and opinions but the bottom line, it's your decision in the end. Like I mentioned before, if you do build a screamin' 273, document it and get it dynoed' if you can. Quite a few here have built them but no one (including myself) has had one on the dyno and knows how much power they make.Talking to my builder this afternoon. Did not seem to matter, used std Fel-Pro head gasket, as always. What's the chamber diameter on a 340 head? Same as the bore size? .040+ is a long ways from 340 bore size.
+ .040 bore, no block notches. Checked bore to valve clearances and used offset dowel pins to optimize.Do you have to bore or any modifications to put 1.88 valve heads on?
You must not know any young Chevy guys, if it’s not a Big Block or and LS from the start, it soon will be. They LS swap everything out here.I've never seen or heard Chevy guys pissin all over 283s like Mopar guys do with 273s.
Define " Sauce "You must not know any young Chevy guys, if it’s not a Big Block or and LS from the start, it soon will be. They LS swap everything out here.
Pulling a 340 for a $$$273$$$ is crazy sauce though.
ain't that the truth...What was the first LA small block Mopar Rusty? I'm getting old and can't recollectI've never seen or heard Chevy guys pissin all over 283s like Mopar guys do with 273s.
It’s a slurry of senselessness mixed with an open wallet. Consume at your own risk.Define " Sauce "

Piss who off? No one cares what you do.I never understood how people think it’s ok to tell people how to spend their money.
It may be senseless to you but not to someone else.
If I was younger I’d drop a 3.79 crank in a 273 just to piss people off.
Then you would have a real tractor motor for your John Deere. If I was younger I’d drop a 3.79 crank in a 273 just to piss people off.
Oh they did when there were plenty of 327's laying around, and then came the mighty 350. lolI've never seen or heard Chevy guys pissin all over 283s like Mopar guys do with 273s.
i can't believe i've just agreed with you dan, lol.I read on here about the 273 turning faster than the 318. But it was a 273 4 barrel and more cam compared to a 318 with a 2 barrel. Give the 318 the same 10.5:1 cr and cam as the 273 and then see what happens. Unless it was a number matching car I would ditch the 273 in a heart beat

He asked for opinions, specifically to be talked out of it in his original post. But don’t let that stop you from your delusions of grandeur.

....although, I would be curious if you would use a single plane intake on it for the higher rpm necessary, or a dual plane to make up for the lack of torque ?
