can the 273 commando pistons be used with the 302 swirl port heads ?? I thought the commando pistons came out of the hole a little and the heart shape in the head would collide with it ???

The 273 heads had the same chamber fill so thats not an issue. What is an issue is the diameters. You'll need to relief cut the 273 block for valve clearence and choose a cam very carefully.

Stock "302" valve sizes are the same. If 1.88's and 1.60's are installed check carefully for any interference. Typically valve clearances in the block are for 2.02 intake valves.
